I just started a metal band. 1st one I've been in since the mid 90's.
We plan on playing lots of stuff from Atreyu (still not sure if I'm spelling it right) to Santana. As well as a bunch of originals ranging in tones from Blues to Santana to Dream Theater to all out death metal.
I've been a DC player for years and absolutely love my DC-5. It does great for some tones, but not the super heavy drop 'B' stuff.
I bought a Rectoverb II to play with it, but when I used the ROV last night, it quite honestly left me wanting. I love the amount of distortion, but lugging 2 amps and still not being able to find all the tones I'm looking for is a pain in the ass.
I've always wanted a Triaxis, but have never had the balls to cough up the dough.
What are the differences?
What is the Phat Mod?
What should I look for?
What should I expect to pay?
What power amp should I use?
I had a 2-90 about 10 years ago and it was loud, but sterile sounding. It did have the stock Mesa tubes though.
I was thinking about a 2-50 simply because there are less tubes and it is lighter. I'm not really worried about 50 watts being too small, my DC-5 can keep up with almost any drummer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in a small town and the nearest Mesa dealer is over 200 miles away.
