First, should the blues setting on the red channel be louder than the modern high gain setting?

Second, I've noticed that the loop active master has a big effect on the overall volume. Anyone use the loop use that control as a sort of maste volume for the whole amp?

Thanx in advance.

Scott

the blues channel will be louder (to your ears) because of the amount of mids that channel puts out

and, the Loop Active Master - when engaged - becomes the true master volume. Allowing you to set the orange and red channels at any level or gain setting you want. pretty neat!

Oh while i'm talking, order up a quad of JJ EL34L power tubes - you will be amazed at how it transforms the vintage orange channel from an annoying buzz to absolutly beautiful rhythm and lead channel. You may even forget to ever use Red again... channel cloning anyone?

i found the blues mode to be louder as well. the added midrange is definately a factor, but i believe this is by design. i think mesa expected many to run the gain relativly low in that mode vs. quite high on the modern high gain mode. i believe it was thier way of giving a somewhat balanced level across all the modes at the gain settings that they expected players to use them.

btw the blues mode was my favorite for both high gain and clean tones out of that amp. i wish mesa would release a three channel amp with three identical blues-mode channels. i would buy one in a second. (even one with two channels)
