I posted a question in here once before but didn't exactly get the answer I was looking for. So I want to ask the question a different way.

First off, I am a Boogie novice. I have never owned one before so I need your help because you know and I don't.

I don't play in a band or play live shows so getting a good live tone is not what I am looking for. I record my own music in my house going direct and not putting mics in front of the amp. So I am looking to get my tone best set up for recording directly.

I play metal music, mostly on the heavier side. I like the clarity of John Petrucci's tone and I like the brutality and heaviness of Dimebag Darrell and Fear Factory so something along the lines of mixing those two.

It's been said to me that the Mark IIC+ is the best metal amp Boogie ever made and will get me the best tone but I have never played one before and frankly, they are hard to find. I read that the Boogie Studio Preamp from the 80's was best able to get the Mark IIc+ sound.

I have tried Rectifiers before at Guitar Center. They sounded ok to me but honestly that isn't what I am looking for. It just didn't have the kick I am looking for.

Sorry to make this so long. So fire away with the suggestions all you Boogie pros. Many thanks to all.

If you're doing only direct recording there are a couple I would look at-
Studio Pre, Quad Pre, Rectifier Recording Pre, and Triaxis.
Personally, I'd get the Studio Pre and Rectifier Recording Pre, which will give you a lot of great Mark series tones and Recto series tones.

+1 to all of that. You should go into the Rack Pieces section of the forum as they will be able to help you with a couple of those.
