I just got in the Mark III. Havent had a chance to play it yet.
Do I need to have a foot switch to get to the 3 modes?
I should be able to just dial them in right?
Seems like a stupid question but I was just reading the manual on line and it mentions the footswitch to go between the modes.

Get the pedal to switch between R1 and R2. This way you will have 4 modes (not 3): R1, R2, Lead, R2+Lead.
Also, get the easy mod that consists on adding a R2 Volume at the back of the chassis and you will never look back.

Without the footswitches, you can access the Lead channel by pulling the Lead drive knob. R2 is accessed by pulling the Middle knob. It should say so just above the respective knob. Crank it! :D

Nah, you don't need to have the foot switches to control the amp. But to actually switch between channels while your playing they are very handy to have, otherwise it's just pain in the ass. I really like the lead channel which I actually use as my main channel as well. I'll be purchasing another III to simplify the switching up a bit.

If your question is whether you need to have the footswitches, the answer is no.

If your question is whether it is convenient to have the footswitches, the answer is yes. You can go with the 3 Mesa footswitches or you can go with a Voodooman replacement (or any similar).

Now, if you want to balance all the modes get the R2 volume mod.

Played it all weekend. What a great amp!
I usually just do a volume roll to do any of the 'clean' playing in the songs we do. So the need of the footswitch for me isnt a big deal.
cant believe how kick ass this amp is for being 22 years old!!
It hangs with my 2009 Rivera KR7!
