Which one would go best in the bridge if i want a all around rock sound, so that i can go from blues to classic rock to punk to metal

X2N?

given what you want to cover you MUST be kidding when you mention that pickup right?

My answer would be 'none of the above'

also depends on what guitar youre putting it in. if your guitar has a thinner sound that you want thicker then the tone zone may be good. but there is no one best, its about what you want to change about your sound. some pickups are high output and some are low, some are chimey and some are bassy, some have a flat response and some have real scooped mids, etc etc.

what sounds are you trying to achieve? what type of guitar are you planning on putting it in? what is wrong with your current sound?

I want to put them in my gibson sg faded special, because i think that the 490t and 490r sound to dull and they do make a bit of noise when i use my high gain in my crate flexwave 120w halfstack, i want to have a pick up for an all around sound for rock, so that its good for metal, punk, blues, and classic rock, and im also looking for it to have some sustain and pretty good noise reduction so it doesnt make so much noise

What amp are you using? I have two guitars with X2N's in them ,i avaoid them like the plague these days because it's just too noisy playing them through my recto. I may be looking at a Stiletto, so I might leave them in for that. But they are definitely very noisy pups.

The Tone Zone is my favorite Dimarzio so far. I'm thinking of switching to Seymour Duncan though, just to see what they have to offer.

I have a faded sg and when i put a super distortion in the bridge it still sounded like crap. Has all to do with the pickups not being parallel with the strings. find a way to tilt them and hear the difference, though you still might want a different bridge pickup.

That's probably because the super distortion is a boring *** pickup.

Maybe i don't use them in any of my guitars anymore, but there is an entire thread about what i said on an sg forum

I don't know about the Tone Zone, but I have an X2N and it really doesn't do low or mid gain very well. I also have some BBs in an LP and it cleans up very, very well just by lowering the guitar's volume. IMO, YMMV!

I tried the Tone Zone in my strat... mine is alder and has a warmer sound than most strats although it woundn't be as warm as a mahogany Gibson SG. The Tone Zone was very grainy and didn't do anything for me personally. I've tried Duncan's as well and they were so so. Then I did some reading on the Harmony Central site and the sleeper pickup that was blowing everyone away was the Dimarzio Breed. I bought the bridge pickup and put it in and was absolutely blown away by this pickup. It's a medium high output pickup that is smoother that the Tone Zone with the fatness as well. It sustains indefinitely even when my guitars volume is set at about 4! I put the neck model in the neck position but I think I'd go with an Air Norton in the neck position it I were to do it all over again. Seriously... the Breed is one of the very best that Dimarzio makes and go overlooked but sound amazing. It's touch sensitive as hell and cleans up completely when you roll off your volume but still sustains big time.

The Breeds also split incredibly well... Super fat strat sound while retaining the jangle

Many have made this point and I agree... when using high gain amps like Boogies... go with a lower gain pick up that it toneful, touch sensitive, and sustains well and let the amp do it's thing.... if you want a hotter signal get a BB pre amp or an OCD.

I agree with the lower gain pickup with Mesa amps, or at least most of them. I picked up a Schecter C1 Elite recently, and the pups aren't nearly as gainy as the ones in my other guitars. It easily has the best sounding pickups with my recto, much cleaner and more articulate.

I keep hearing about how the Breed is an improved version of the Tone Zone, but I don't know if I have it in me for another pickup swap! I really want to try one though.

I dont think the Breed sounds ANYTHING like a Tone Zone. I have had both and am trying to draw similarities....I guess they are both made by Dimarzio. That is something.

A pickup that IS based on the Breed is the Andy Timmons pickup that you could only get on his (now discontinued) sig guitar.

I don't think the Breed sounds like the Tone Zone... The Breed sounds like a fatter PAF Pro pick up and more touch sensitive. It's a Steve Vai signature model pickup.

I replaced the bridge pickup in my Gibson SG Std with a Tone Zone and it sounds way better now, I encourage you to do the same. It's more articulate, tighter and fuller. :D

IMO, you might like the Norton. I have one in my Les Paul and it's great. I also like the Dimarzio Super 3 alot. I have a Breed Neck pup that I used to use in the bridge of my Jackson and it's also a very nice pup. If you want to try the Breed neck pup in the bridge of your SG I can send you one. Just don't cut the lead anymore than it is and pay the shipping. If you like it we can work something out.
