I can laugh with the best of them. There is a history here of some members questioning the value of the C+ and the "cork sniffing" status of those who own them. When someone asks me what amp do I play, my response is "a Mark II". If they do not inquire further, that is all I will say. No ring kissing, holy grail, or anything else. FWIW, one of those jedi knights has saved me lots of time and money over the years that I have been a member here. Your ring kissing comment may have been an innocent joke, but it really has become a sour subject on this message board. From one "cowboy" to another, it's all good. :D[/quote]

Thankyou for that. The kiss my ring part was just a rib and nothing more. I was hoping for even more outrageous commentary, rather I got the bully in the streets...ya wanna have a pissin' match retort. Not what I expected. Again it was to be humorous.

I'd read the big commentary from Mesa regarding the Mk V and the Mk IIC+ for dummies and both said that a stripped down C+ was (at present) the cats meow and that Mr. Smith didn't finish a whole lot of amps when things got rolling for Mesa.

I was makin a big joke and nothing more. Sorry to step on the Boogie Forum toes, but I have many years with the Mesa line professionally and I do have something to offer. I'm over it, all is good.

I even posted a youtube what my amp sounds like so we could talk but I got the kiss my arse remark.

If all you're going to do is get Santana tones out of it, then you might as well have gotten a Mark I.
Been meaning to get back to this comment, the sound on the posted video is what I wanted to get and at a reasonable volume with my my Boogie. I've never been able to get that out of the several mark I's I've owned. Carlos played his Mark I on all volumes at 7. Have you ever tried playing that loud? It can only be done in extra large venues.

My drummer for seven years was Graham Lear who played with Carlos for almost a decade, he's taught me well. I guess I'm not sure of what question you're asking? Are Santana tones that easy? I beg to differ. If you can dial them up that easy please send me your sound clips so that I may learn.

Master Drummer Graham Lear!
I'd give a Boogie to have my son spend some time with him.

Juan
He is absolutely amazing Juan, not to mention one hell of a nice guy. He does give lessons, he lives on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. His older son is really getting to be good as well, and his youngest is getting after it too. You can contact Graham off of his website http://grahamlear.com/

If you do contact him tell him I directed you to him (Gary Small). I'll see him next weekend by the way. He and I will be going to the Native American Music Awards that will be in Niagara Falls.

here is me with the "Holly grail" Mk IIC+. Hope you enjoy it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVkEaeKayi0

Mullets = tone. Proven fact.

Sounds like you guys have never heard of Santana...

revgsmall,
I am a big fan of Carlos Santana and I've been trying to mimic his earlier tone (before Supernatural). I watched your video and I am very much impressed with your tone.

I also have a IIC+ combo, a 60/100W with the X101 tranny, and I am surprised you could get out of the IIC+ the sound I am looking for.
What speaker does your amp have and what were your settings playing at that reasonable volume? Any pedals to get that sound?

Congrats!

I had only a TC Electronics reverb in the PreAmp out/Power Amp in.I set all the volumes at 7 except for the Master, that is set on what I can get away with, volume wise but I like it at 3, and its still screaming loud. You may be able to see my PRS Santana III on a stand, I had just got the guitar and was a little leary of using it that day. I think it has more abilities than the Custom 22 I was using that day. But most important I set the Master volume with my guitars volume knob on 7 1/2-8, and I use the rest of the guitars volume knob to sustain notes, and then back it down to proceed with the rest of the lead/song. The clean channel with the volume at 7 is just marvelous for riding the guitars volume knob for clean to OD driven rhythm.

All knobs pulled except for the bass knob. Bass-3 Mid 8-9, and treble at 61/4, presence 1-2. I set the mid high and I always find a treble knob sweet spot with boogie's at around 61/4, its a very small window!!! Carlos' then-guitar tech shared a lot of this info with me. Speaker was an EVM. And big triangle guitar picks give you a way different sound than conventional.

Thank you, revgsmall.
I will try your Santana setting this weekend. I was about to experiment with the Fulldrive 2 or the BB Preamp.

Regarding those triangular picks (.030" medium soft), I cannot get used to them. Too big for me.
I am using a Dunlop .73 mm which is also a medium thickness pick, although I don't think it matches the softness of a larger pick.
Thank you again.

Yeah those Dorito picks take some getting used to. I've used them since I was 14 so they feel real natural to me. I think the sharpness of the angle is what makes the sonic dif. I have used the Fulldrive II in a lot of situations where I have to play at low volumes or had to use a rental (usually a Fender Twin) and I can get pretty close to my Boogie tone with it, its not perfect, but what is. In any event, I haven't found another pedal that came closer than the Fulldrive II.
