I have been listening to a lot of sample clips of amps. And there are two brands that sound a little bit the same for me: bogner überschall and ENGL (savage 120, powerball, SE). Which one is the best for most of you guys
I already played a überschall a couple of times and found it pretty good,
but not really amazing, I played a powerball and also found it pretty nice (again I found it not amazing), a Savage I only heard at a gig (and in soundclips offcourse) and that one really sounded amazing.

That one's pretty good too, but I never played it and I don't know if I heard it played by someone else.

I swear by my Savage 120. Flat out amazing tones.

Savages really kick ***
I heard someone say powerballs would be more agressive then the savages. I thought that was very strange because when you look at the schematic of the savage it seems to have more gainstages.

Anyone understands those things some better than me
Any comments on überschalls??

Uber's are a bit more fizzy in the preamp than Engls. Engl's seem to have a "clean" ot tight preamp.

The Savage is much more aggressive than the Powerball, that's why I bought it. It's amazingly tight and is the only amp other than a Mark IV that I've found that can truly do the whole tonal spectrum. Sparkling clean, slightly overdriven, gritty blues, classic rock, early metal, modern rock, and balls out modern metal.

I too think it's much better than a powerball,
Maybe it's more agressive but I heard someone on JCF-forum say:
(think a powerball on 10-12 o'clock would be a savage 120 on 2-3 o'clock)
And that would be very strange, because the savage seems to have a lot more gainstages.
Can someone explain me the thing with those gainstages in the schematic I posted. The savage seems to have eight gainstages but I think that they always work seperately for the rythm tones the three gainstages on top and for the lead tones the five below. But still, I that's the fact the savage120 should have more gain than the powerball, because it's only got four gainstages as far as I know
