Tesla premp tubes different?

Jd like to know which is the differnet beetwen JJ ECC83S tube and JJ ECC803S tubes. They are booth for 12ax7 replacement. Which tube to buy for preamp

hi tofisi, first of all jj AREN´T tesla, as we know the nos tesla
ok so here i go:
the ecc83s are short plate tubes, the short plates tubes usually are rougher and tougher than long plates, they have a very good saturate features and also a good relation s/n, but they hadn´t so much musical details.
on the other hand ecc803 are long plate tubes, they tend to be microphonics as years gone, they are not very good on saturate channels but they are amazingly clean and full of details on clean purposes. if you have a combo i don´t recomend to you that tubes because they will be more noisy than ecc83s.
an easy example is that i recomend ecc83s for guitar amps and the ecc803 for audio preamps like tl audio stuff and others.
of course ecc83s are for macho man and ecc803 finds very nice on jazzy-clean enviroments. i´m a real man with a lot of guts and for that reason i use ecc83s :lol:

The 803's do have a nice classic rock vibe. The low mids are accentuated, as compared to the 83's which are a more scooped and a tad higher gain. Try them and see what you think, while you at it... try the Groove Tube 12AX7M's. They too are long plate and share similar qualities to the 803's
