Just sold my Marshall cab on CL. I'm gonna go place an order for the Roadster 2x12 later this morning....

Awesome man. The Head should open up a little more with V30's (my ears can't stand G12-75's with Rectos) I have heard and read good things about the Roadster cab. Good stuff. Glad you are liking the head.

espboogie123: I would assume that since he has a Roadster head, he wants to pair it with the Roadster cab, and also, the speakers are the same however the cab dimensions are a little smaller, making it a tighter, more focused sounding cab. That's just my guess though.

+1. Matching the head and cab was also my intent in addition to portability and whatnot. :)

I placed my order for the cab but as I suspected it is going to be a 2-3 month wait (unless Boogie happens to have one laying around ready to ship). Everyone seems to be out of stock or they don't carry it stock on hand. With all being said I will be cabless and and unable to use my Roadster for a few monthes (have a Cube 60 in the meantime though). Now I wait....

I own a Roadster and this thing is a monster. I owned several amps before my boogie and the roadster tops it all.

I ordered a bias mod for mine so I can experiment with a different brand Power Tubes.

I installed the bias mod on my Roadster and I am satisfied with it. It opened up the full potential of the amp. I bought a quad JJ KT77's with a long plate gold pin ECC803S for V1 high gain ECC83S for V2 and V3. Then I used two standard ECC83S’s in V4 and V5 with balanced ECC83S in V6 for the phase inverter. It made a huge difference. Rectifier modes - You can set the bias settings from 44Ma -78Ma. I suggest play around with it and decide what's best for your ears. I set mine at 72Ma. BTW set the bias switch to EL34 when using these power tubes. Go eurotubes.com. You'll pick some good suggestions from Bob.

Are you sure about that 72mA??

That's well beyond what the KT77 is designed to dissipate, unless your B+ is well under 400V. I recommend you lower that bias. Even in Spongy/Tube Rectifier you are really pushing those KT77's into red-plate territory at 72mA! (400V * .072A = 28.8W).

It's my typo. Glad you caught it. It's actually 46. I will rebias it tonight just to make sure it is within. But looking at the back of the Roadster head it wasn't very hot after playing for about 20mins or so and I didn't read plating at all. But you are right as far as 72 that's way too hot.

I would still dial that bias down just a bit if you plan to ever use the amp in Bold/Diode. At 460V at the plates, 52mA = about 95% of max plate dissipation. That's extremely hot.

If you read the data sheet for those tubes you will see they are a 25W tube. 460V * 0.052mA = 23.9W.

Do you have any pics of your bias mod installed? I was considering one for my Roadster and I curious where the bias resistor is located.

I think im going to go with the Roadster. I sold my Single Recto to someone a couple days ago, so i might aswell. But i have a question for you roadster owners. When switching between Bold/Spongy and Diode/Recto Tracking does the amp have to be off? And is it possible to run a different kind of tube in the outside sockets than the inside at 50 watts?
Sorry for the noob questions

You can switch between diode/recto while on. Not sure on the bold/spongy as flipping to from bold to spongy can activate the off switch in middle. I've never really tried. I know you can run a mix of KT88 n KT66s and KT77 and 6V6s but must bias equally. Not sure on other power tube combinations. Others might chime in...

I switch between bold/spongy all the time, works fine.

Yes it can be done. I have confirmed this with Mesa............................

The Roadster kills. I have been through at least a dozen tube amps in the past 5 years. After having the Roadster for 2 years I no longer gas for other amps. You do have to spend some time with it. I played around with preamp tubes for quite a while before i found the perfect combination for me. The amp really does it all very well.

what is your preamp combination I may ask?

I've used JJ's and Mullard but I want something more tone than just gain. I do like high gain.
