My amp is NEVER going back to the 6L6 setting. EVER. I will say that while I was running in the 6L6 setting, the TADs dominated all of my 6L6's. Now that I run in the EL34 setting the are actually now back-ups to my STR454 Svetlanas which surpassed them in tone with the bias brough up.

You ought to hear them in a recto with the bias switch set to EL34. it actually gets the bias up to the high 30's low 40's depending on tube/diode bold/spongy settings and they really come to life.

I have heard about running 6L6s with the bias switch set to EL34 to bring up the bias. You have not had any problems, no glowing tubes? The TADs can run up to 70% of rated plate dissipation, so the low 40s should not be a problem. I am just nervous about wrecking something.

FYI

The Tad Tubes can be purchased here:

I have bought from him in the past and he is good to deal with.

Not even close. You'll notice the plate structures are completely different, as well as the mica spacers. Also the Shuguangs have a clear top with the getter flash at the bottom where the Mesa STR-440 has the traditional top getter flash.

I believe the Mesa STR-440 is supplied by Ruby.
