I would just like to say I have been a stiletto ace owner for about 4 months. It's a great amp for clean styles and it can do a decent dirty sound for a guns and roses. I play heavy music (i.e for the fallen dreams, parkway drive, misery signals) and I have heard really good metal tones coming from dual recs. I have also heard some downsides. Is it true they get lost in the mix?

Here's an example of the tone im looking for

I was also wondering what the difference would be with a dual rec and recto cab (oversized) vs a dual rec and a stiletto cab?

If you want tone more suitable for heavy metal, the Rectos will fill this bill better than a Stiletto.....
As far as 'lost in the mix' that's something that, generally, no Mesa has a problem with, IMO. 8)

As far as cabs, I don't use either one you mentioned...but I'd trust your ears if you have a chance to audition them...and I have a feeling someone here has used both and can tell you.....

Generally, a larger cab size = more bass, as a starting reference.
Good luck :)

Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm really excited to get a dual rec! I have played one, and my friends has one and it sounds really good.

He told me it took a lot of time dialing it in and it's very touchy amp.

I'm using a triple rec with stiletto cabs, i just like them because they are lighter and smaller footprint for carting around. I have a 1X12 and a 2X12, another thing that is nice about the stiletto cabs is the 1X12 and the 2X12 are the same size so you can stack them... my other guitar player and I put a 1X12 on each others side of the stage so we can monitor each other, it's also a nicer out front mix. I like the sound of them... I guess it depends on the type of music you are doing but there is plenty of bass for my taste. I had originally bought the recto 2X12 which also sounds very good but I knew pretty quickly I didnt want to be carting that thing around to gigs.

I was also considering getting a 4X12 cab with the optional stereo inputs and just figuring that I would have my other guitar player plug into half of my cab, but unless I did some re-wiring of the speakers it looked like it was going to be an impedance nightmare. Anyway bottom line, I'm sure you can't go wrong with either line of cab, they are exact same speakers from what I can tell just in different boxes. You'll love this amp... really versatile...
