Is it possible to swap tubes in and out preamp tubes and power amp tubes, without causing damage to the tubes or amps (provided they are handled correctly etc....)
For instance say, one week I want to run EL-34's....the next switch over to 6l6's. And/or swap various different preamp tubes in and out of various positions in the search for "the tone".

Yes of course. Just be careful how you handle them when you pull or push on them, you don't want to disturb the pins too much. Make sure they are cold when you work on them and don't forget to spread the clips a little at the base so they release the tube. Very little wiggle and pull straight up.

When you install them, align the keyway on the middle post and fit the pins into their sockets before you push. Again, very little wiggle while you do this, you want to push straight down. You don't want to spread the pin sockets more than you have to or you might loosen the connection.

Just take your time and don't force anything. I'm sure you'll be fine.

You cant swap 6L6's and EL34's,unless you check/adjust the bias.Preamp tubes are okay as long as the tube subs are compatible. For example you can swap most 12A?7 types, but dont try to sub a 7199 for a 12A?7 type, just because they are 9 pin type doesnt mean they are interchangeable.

I have been doing this with my Rectifier for about a year without any ill effects. I do take my time when changing them out.
