SUS-4 shock mount rack question

I have seen two different types of SUS-4 shock mount racks. One has large shock mounts: cylinders probably 1.5 inches in diameter and 2-3 inches long. Another has small shock mounts: they are almost flush with the side of the cabinets with a small rod, less than an inch long.

Does anyone how these two type of shock mounts compare? Do the smaller ones work well? Is the size of the cabinet smaller for the smaller ones, than for the larger ones?
