Studio Preamp

Saw it on Craigslist for 75 bucks. It was already sold. 75 dollars. This is outrageously low for this item I'm guessing, I looked it up and felt like sh!t after hearing it was sold.

Typical prices are around $400 or more these days. I'm not surprised it sold in a flash. Somebody got lucky.

Yeah but the question is, was it the buyer getting lucky, or the seller getting lucky by getting rid of something that didn't even come close to working? ;P

It happens. You'll be pissed for a while, but just go watch one of those appraisal TV show things and you'll be over it. A great deal, maybe, but when you see a $5 desk from the side of the road appraised at $250,000 because Ben Franklin had sex in it, you won't care so much.

Kingster, did you make the same comment on my Studio Pre youtube videos? Hah.

I've seen them mostly go between $350-450, but for really mint condition ones I've seem them go up to $600.

Its funny, one guy said he got his at Guitar Center for like $150 back in 2001. And then recently I saw one used at Guitar Center for $1200! I guess the word's out that the Studio Pre is the preamp of a Mark IIC+, which its not...its got its own great sound. In fact I find that where it shines most is not high gain tones but low/medium gain "dirt". Its just got an incredible fat juicy chimey sound to it. Besides the fact that the clean channel is incredible, the lead channel with the gain set real low gives some amazing clean-ish tones as well.

That was the San Francisco GC that had the studio for $1200, and they still have it. I called them up and asked them what was special about it because the going rate for pristine units was $500. He got mad at me and hung up. Most likely they mistakenly front loaded a trade and didn't realize the going rate for the Studio. It's now priced at $599, but that's still a bit high.

And personally I prefer the Quad to the Studio, though I think the Mark IV sounds better than both of them.

I got my studio pre AND my 50/50 in a head cab for £100,a few years ago. I didn't even play guitar,I just wanted a stereo valve amp to try with my Hi Fi.I had never heard of Mesa Boogie.The old guy selling wouldn't split them so I had to pay the full £100.Curiosity made me buy an old LP copy for £10 to try guitar about six months later.Lucky me.
