From what I can research, there were three versions of the Strategy 400 Stereo power amp. First one had volume knobs on rear; second version added a presence switch on the rear, added 2 ohm per channel capability; and the last one moved both the volume and presence to the front, and the presence was changed to a dial.

What does the presence feature do?
Is any version more desirable that the other, or is the 2 ohm minimum load and presence feature the only real difference?

I play electric bass and I have the first version. It has all New "Sino" Coke Bottle 6L6's in it. I was considering moving into bi-amping, and wondered if I would be missing out on anything by sticking with this early version.

Thanks in advance!

I have a Strategy 500, which has the volume and presence knobs on the front. At least with that amp, the presence knob is a huge element of tone sculpting for me. I leave my JMP-1 presence pretty high up and really don't ever touch it. I much prefer the effect on the sound that the S-500's presence knob enacts.

Does anyone know what the current draw at 120VAC is? Can't find it in the manual, or on the unit.
