I dropped a BOSS EQ-20 Advanced EQ in the loop of my Stiletto Deuce Stage II today. I am now achieving unbelievable tone and tightness. I bumped 800Hz, 200Hz, and 120Hz about a half a marker and left everything else flat. It sounds fantastic. I can not believe how well the amp tightened up by barely bumping those 3 frequencies. It livened and retained the boogie tone. I am happy that I made this choice.

With many people having great results throwing a EQ on Mesa amps, it makes me wonder why Mesa doesn't include a 5 band, or more, EQ on all their products. Congrats on the new found love.

they did that with the mark series. with eq you can change your sound dramatically

Or maybe make the Mids with an extra knob beside it to select the frequency you want to boost or cut. That would be pretty cool.

I agree. Every Mesa I've had has always sounded better with a graphic. My Ace is my first rock amp (I don't count the Blue Angel) that didn't have its own EQ.

I have a switching system. Sometimes I run an Ibanez graphic pedal in the loop, but most often it's a dbx graphic. I like to sharpen the upper mids.

Where would you put the EQ, before the input or between the preamp and the power amp?

I put the EQ in the loop. Otherwise if you put it in front of the amp you are only shaping the sound of your instrument and not the amp.

I used to use an MXR EQ in my Dual Recto and just with slight adjustments, it really made the Recto tighten right up and sound great!

I still haven't tried it with my Stiletto yet, but i can only imagine it would be great! only thing i hate is having to deal with the power adaptor for that pedal!

but run it through the effects loop and be amazed at how it shapes the tone!

Just wondering is the MXR EQ in analog format or digital?

I am using the 4 cable setup with my LSC and GT-8. It sounds so good without any EQing in the GT-8. Perhaps I will play around with some slight EQ mods. Is a mild scoop the popular recommendation?

I would start off with the eq flat and make adjustments from there.

If you also run a reverb, would you eq before or after it??

I run my EQ first in chain through the loop. I get the tone that I want and then apply effects this way I am not coloring the sounds of my effects.

I too have had great success running a 10 band EQ in the loop of my Mesas. I always considered it my secret weapon. I was never sure if it was the reason I loved my Stage I Stiletto Deuce so much. I achieved unbelievable tones with that amp and could never understand why it got so much bad press on various internet forums.
