Hi, New member here. I just bought a Stiletto Deuce head and I guess I am going through the 'Oops, have I done the right thing' phase. I confess that I am struggling with the perceived brightness/harshness thing that I have read so much about, but I also agree that it cuts through the mix in a live situation better than most. At the moment I am using a Way Huge Fat Sandwich for my lead sounds through the Tight Clean channel as I feel uncertain of the dirty channel sounds. But my question is that I felt I wasn't getting the full volume of the amp. I realise that using Spongy and Tube rec. settings will turn things down, but following the manual, I left the effects loop volume at the mid point (normal) but even though there is nothing plugged in the loop, it is still operational, and only when I turn it up do I get a more realistic volume from the amp. Is this right, or is my amp faulty?

So if you do not run through the effects loop, do you guys leave the loop volume at full, half, what? Does anyone know what part of the amp this volume is controlling, pre amp, power amp or something else?

Preamp volume. If your not using the loop you should bypass it. I will generally use the effects loop at home to tame the volume of my amp, and I sometimes run an eq through it, in which case I will set the volume accordingly. But in a practice or live situation the loop is out.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure I agree with switching the loop out as I will lose the valuable solo and master functions. But I will give it a try at the next rehearsal.

You do loose the solo function which sucks. As far as the global master I think you will find you're better of with out it. My Stiletto's always sounded best; loop bypassed, gain at noon, and wide frikin open. I have owned the Ace combo, Ace head, and Trident stage 1 head. The solo boost is sweet though, if you don't want to sacrifice this then play with the loop level until you find something you like. You can also jump the loop and use both send and return levels.
