Hey.

Once again, my brother Felipe, my friends César and Paulinho and I joined forces. We've just finished the 2nd song for our Split-Screen Covers / DT Tribute project on youtube.

For those who don't know, we started off the project covering "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream" a few months ago with a guest vocalist from Venezuela called José "Chego". It was a great experience.

For this 2nd song we chose Metropolis Pt.1 from DT's Images and Words album. We wanted a classic DT song that required some more chops than the first one, so this seemed like an obvious choice.

This time our guest vocalist was Will Shaw, aka Unflexablegrace, the "guy who sings DT in his car". Some of you might've seen his videos. Great singer, it was a pleasure having him collab with us!

The deal was the same. Everyone records audio and video and sends it to me for mixing and editing. We worked hard on this one... Enjoy!

Ive replied to this on so many forums. Great stuff guys! Impeccable cover.

You should attempt something so epic like A Change of Seasons, or A Mind Besides Itself.

Dude once again just epic and one hell of a great idea/concept. I see you are putting all the goodies you brought back from your trip to good use..............awesome. Keep it rockin!!

Once again, spot on. Im not sure which vocalist youve used that I like more. Will has more of a Dominici tone (of course with a much larger range) IMO

Wow. I guess I can get sell all my instruments now, 'cause I'll never hold a candle to that. You guys are unbelievable!

ok, so how many takes for ya? ;)

jeez man, great work all of you guys

I totally forgot I had posted this thread here on the BB.
So sorry for not replying earlier guys!

I recorded the guitar parts at home.
With a Mesa Boogie Mark IV on a Stiletto cab, miced with a single SM-57.
For this video I had just bought a Great River pre, so that's what was used, into an RME Fireface 400 for the AD, into my PC.

There were many many takes.
Not all on video obviously, since it would be a living hell to edit it all. This wasn't the goal anyway, to represent every single take with it's respective shot. Our goal is to get the audio sounding as good as possible, within our limitations (budget, space, gear, software, engineering/mixing skills). For this goal to be achieved on the guitar side I needed double-tracking, crossfades, rhythm guitars along with solos, post-tracking EQing and fx and whatnot. The video is a cool bonus.

Thank you all for checking it out and commenting. Also thank you for commenting, rating and subscribing on youtube.
The vid has reached 250k views on my channel alone by now, which is pretty successful considering it's 10+min long cover of a prog-metal song. In celebrating it's success we're making something real special for the countless people who asked for play-alongs for their specific instruments. Should be up in a few days.
