Ive swapped the chrome for alu/nickel plated hardware on my 97 LP standard along with the bridge pickup and it looks too new. The machine heads are tarnished.

Is there any tricks to getting it looking more like a 1997 guitar.

I didnt get a aged pickup cover on the bareknuckle pickup as they look too aged and wouldnt match the gibson nickel bridge

Whats with the whole "aged" and "roadworn" trend lately. Fender has a whole line of pre-beat to sh!t looking guitars. Anything I have that looks worn is because it is. I say polish the rest of your hardware to match the new stuff, not beat up the new stuff to make it look old. Don't worry, new shiney gear wont "tarnish" your street cred.

Send it to me and let me play it for a couple of weeks. I sweat so much and it's so acidic I'll have it looking aged in no time.

Seriously though, just don't wash your hands and rub your hands all over the parts a lot. It will age them naturally rather than scraping with steel wool or some other abrasive.

street cred was never a thing i ever chased ha.

the guitar looks a little odd...Ive had this stuff on now for over a year and have gigged a lot with it and it looks no different.

Its not a case of the guitar looking more aged....it looks like a 97 guitar but the newer stuff doesnt

Are you sure the new parts are nickel? You must have really mild sweat. I can't keep up with the nickel hardware on my guitar. My bridge pickup is worn through the nickel, down to the copper plating where my pinky contacts it!

If you want aged quick go to radioshack buy some circuit board etchant in the bottle. get about a tablespoon and dilute with same amount of water. Use a cotton swab to wipe on the hardware. Have a cup of regular water on hand. It will work pretty fast so you need to be able to clean it off. Use some fine steelwool to wear the surface a bit before applying. It does not harm the guitar's finish. I have picks on my myspace of the guitars I built and I've used this technique on most of them.

i had some computer solvent already and tried that....made no diff...not sure if thats ther stuff you were on about..it was in a spray can

If you can't age it with sweat, solvents and time, it's probably chrome, not nickle. My '96 LP Classic's bridge has worn through to the copper plating underneath the nickle as a previous poster has related.

My '99 SG with the chrome bridge and tailpiece still looks like new.

its deff not chrome. Its a gibson bridge and alu tailpiece, the bridge pickup has a nickle cover on but the original neck pickup has a chrome cover on because its a diff colour to the rest. How do gibson age their vos stuff????

I will get a 58 vos one day as ive wanted one for years but the 97 standard Ive got now is a great example, great neck, great tone..just looks odd after adding new parts 18 months ago.

the machine heads are all tarnished somehow but nothing else is
