Speakers ????

I know Mesa cabs come with vintage 30's but I have a chance to get a Marshall 1960a cab with celestion G12T-75's for a pretty good deal. My question is, are these speakers anywhere close to the vintage 30's?? Will the cab sound good through my Single Rec? I would love to get the Mesa Rec cab but money is kinda an issue, lol. Thanks, I have never heard good or bad about these G12T-75's.

G12T-75s are nothing like V30s, IMO. A lot of people like them, but it depends on what sound you are going for. It seems like a lot of metal guys like the 75s - I think they are more mid-scooped than V30s, which given the Marshall cabs natural mid-boost, may work well if that is the sound you are going for.

But if you really want the sound of Vintage 30s, I don't think you will be happy with the 75s.

If you want V30s, I would keep looking and try to find a used Marshall 1960 AV. The AV comes stock with Vintage 30s, and you can get them used pretty readily and for a good price.

(Bias alert: I run a 1960AV with my 3ch DR and love the combo. I am replacing two of the V30s with G12H30s however - just to smooth out the mid response a little more)

Thanks Alien, I am a metal player. I been listening to comparisons on you tube between the 30's and 75's, I like the sound of the 75's.

metal players also like a combination of v30s / G12T 75s or v30s and G12K 100s in an X pattern. The G12K 100s are tighter and more articulate whereas the G12T 75s give more cone distortion.

If you decide you want Vintage 30s and can't foot the Mesa price tag, both the Carvin Legacy cab and the Crate Blue Voodoo cab are all-ply cabinets with V30s, and can be found used around $300 if you're patient.

If you like the sound of G12-75s, then grab a Marshall 1960 and rock on! They're cheap and plentiful.

I have a Marshall JCM900 1960B (G12-75s) running into a DR Blackface. I get an insane heavy tone with that setup.

Well, I decided against the marshall cab. Got a Port City 2x12 with one v30 and one greenback in it from a guy I work with, he just got the cab like 4 months ago, gettin it tommorrow!!!!
