I am looking into replacing the speakers in my 412 (peavey 412MS) cab and I have been trying to lean away form Celestion. The "celestion" sound has never done much for me personally, I always found them to be a little muffled and loose sounding. Right now, I am using 5150 Sheffield 1200 series speakers. They are a little too harsh for me anymore. Especially playing in a band where the other guitarist has an oversized cab with 75watt Greenbacks in it.

Musically I am playing heavier Alt Rock (ala Smashing Pumpkins) and Folk Metal (Ensiferum, Wintersun) kinda stuff. Yeah I know, steps away from one and other.. but that's why I need a good speaker that can sound good with both. Anyway, what are your thoughts? OH! I am using a 2 Channel Dual Rec I should add.

I'm not much of a Celestion guy either but G12K-100's are great and fit what you're looking for.
Eminence Governors are a great alternative to V30's. If you like the greenback sound try Splawn Small Blocks. They are a 65 watt version of a greenie.

To cover multiple music types, or just to thicken or widen the tone, try replacing 2 of the V30s. Maybe with C90s, or with something more bluesy from Eminence. This seems to be a popular solution.

Also, for what you're playing, a 4x10 might be a good fit. Easier to carry, too. I'm playing everything from Stevie Wonder to Whitesnake thru a Mini Rec into a 4x10. Really tight, but with good low-end.

Yeah I actually thought about getting my hands on a 4x10 sometime in the near future. I love the lowend sound but Im much more of a punch fan than a thump fan if that makes any sense.

Those Governors sound interesting as well as the splawns, I'll see if I can find some demos somewhere on them.

Thanks for the recommendations!
