Speaker recommendation for Triple Rec

Currently I'm playing through a Marshall 1960BV (Marshall Vintage speakers) and I was happy with it for a about 3 years. Since my band-mate bought Weber speakers for his '68 plexi clone, I started thinking about better speakers. Because the Webers were such a big upgrade to his sound.
Recently I bought a Mesa Rectifier 4x12 (oversized, slant) with V30's but hated the infamous blanked sound and sold it again.

All the boutique speakers I know about (Scumback, Weber, WGS etc.) seem to aim their products at 'that 60's-70's' tone.... and I think that is not for me (?). But maybe I'm wrong.

I'm playing thrash metal and want a tight sound (no more bass please! ) with a great shuggah shuggah on the palm mutes ;-)

Recommendations?

A mix of v30s / G12k 100s might be what you're looking for with the speakers. I don't think you're after vintage speaker breakup.

You're right, I don't like the speaker distortion. Although my amp sounded nice on those Webers frequency-wise...

About a year ago I tested a mix of Marshall vintage and G12T-75's but it sounded very out of balance to me.
Can you tell me more about that mix of V30's (I have 2 at home) and G12k-100's? How do these fill each other in?

A killer mix for sure is Mesa V30's with C90's in an "X" pattern, fills out the high/low mid spectrum and adds a lot of beef to your tone.

If you want more of the amp without speaker color, i would suggest find some Old EV 200 watters, clear speakers.

A few weeks ago I bought one EVM12L 200 watt speaker to try with my Triple Rec... I had high expectations on this speakers based on what people on the interwebs said, but the only word that comes to mind is; meh. I tested it on 3 band rehearsal days over the span of 3 weeks.

Possitive: I can hear myself very clear in the band-mix even with only one speaker.
Negative: The tone is simply not that great. Even sounds lo-fi (like an old radio) and compressed to me in a closed cab, when I removed an unused speaker (porting the cab) it was less lo-fi though.

Speakers I have tried in my Marshall 1960 cab and my thoughts about them.
Marshall G12 Vintage: Good, until my band-buddy bought Webers... then we noticed how 'boomy' and scooped they sound.
Celestion V30 (Mesa and regular): Sounds like there is a blanked over the cab, even with presence way up on the amp.
Celestion G12 75T: Sound lo-fi to me.
Weber Legacy: Great tone, but too much cone breakup.
EV12L: Sound stiff, lo-fi.

So, more suggestions?

[UPDATE 2: Hooked the EV12L up to my 2x12 at home. It is kind of great sounding on Channel 3 modern! Most of the time I'm on Channel 2 vintage, with my V30's.]

I am currently running my Triple through an original 5150 slant cab with two G12T-75 in an x pattern with two of the original 100w Sheffield 1200's and its the best sounding cab I have played through yet. Boogie, Marshall and Randall cabs included.

Ok, nice. As far as I could find on the interwebs the Sheffield 1200's are kind of greenback-ish voiced?
I tried the G12T-75's (alone and in X with V30's) but I didn't like the sound at all.

What are your global settings on your triple with this cab?
For me:
V30's: channel 2, vintage, spongy, ss and with a TS808 in front of the amp.
EVM12L: channel 3, modern, spongy, ss and again with the TS808 to tighten bass.

I run ch3 modern, bold, ss. Bass is around 1:00, mids around 12:00, treb 12:00 and pres at 1-2:00. I run a modded TS9 in front as well as a slight clean boost with the drive off, output at 12:00 and tone depends on the guitar and pickups I run. Ch2 i use for recording with almost no bass, a crapload of mids and presence maxed and in vintage mode. Should also mention that I did all of the mods in the "want pre-500 tone?" thread and the amp is so tight and well balanced you can crank the bass and it not flub out at all. Both ch2 and ch3 also have 1meg gain pots and 220k presence pots.

I think half your problem is you are comparing your recto to his plexi clone, the amps are so different that you will never be able to match him or come close to his tone with your triple. The recto is designed to work with V30's and when they were designed thrash was not in mind of Randall Smith.

My suggestion would be to find another amp that is close to your buddies for band and kept your recto for other projects, either that or learn to deal that the recto sits differently in the mix then his marshall clone will.

That is a possibility and in the end maybe inevitable. But I think I'm not comparing the tones... Initially we liked the difference in amps and it made the band sound very heavy without tuning our guitars lower than standard. But this was before the Webers came in. Before the Webers my buddy played Celestion G12T 75's.

I think there is a lot to gain if I had a talk with the guys (I'm looking at you bass guy) about frequencies. But, I think I still want better speakers than my stock Marshall Vintages ;-)

It's a bit against my will, or principals if you will... but what about an EQ in the loop? This will help me at least get rid of the excess bass... right?

Don't forget, Marshall Vintage 30s are alot brighter and thinner sounding than Mesa's Vintage 30's. They are NOT the same speaker.

Little OT but I wanted to ask, did the 220k presence pots make both channels brighter? (like how the 1meg gain pots changed the tone/character of the gain)

It did on the red channel. The orange channel on modern doesn't have a single but more presebce than with the stock 25k pot. I still run it maxed and its not enough.
