Hey guys, I think I already posted this song a while back, but I've made a re-recording of it and it's turned out much better than the last one. I also threw in some ad-lib bass so it sounds a bit more thumpin'.

Played my KH-602 through a TS8 into the Mark IV running a 4x12 and a 2x12. EQ was enabled and I had a 10-band MXR in the loop for a bit of fine tuning. 4x12 mic'd up with an e609 and the 2x12 has just an SM57 on it. Ran those through 2 tube pre-amps, and into a Mackie 20 channel, then into a Delta 1010 and finally into Cubase.

I couldn't crank my amp super loud cuz I have family upstairs, but I ran my channel volume at about 2 and output around 3.5 - 4, so it was decent.

Anyway, here's the link, let me know what you think of the tone (and more importantly, the music heh)!

Thanks in advance.

Lemme know if anyone has anything they want me to check out in exchange for listening to my stuff.

i really dig it, keep in mind i only heard it on laptop speakers, but great shredding tone and tight execution on the rhythm, and i like the contrast with that real smooth creamy lead tone around 4:00, cool melodies too..

i thought i heard some especially loud spots around 4:40 and 4:46 when you hit a certain note, maybe it was either the cab flubbing/resonating on that note, or it hitting the natural frequency of the room you recorded in, or just running out of headroom on the guitar tracks or in the overall mix at that point in cubase? alternatively, its just my speakers :)

Also, if anyone is interested, I started writing a new song a while ago, this is a little clip of some of it.

For this clip, I'm running my Road King in there as well as the Mark IV, gives it a really ******' huge sounding tone.

It has no name yet:

I hear what you mean about the loud parts. I don't think anything is maxing out. None of the tracks are louder than -6dB on their own, and I normalized the mix at the end to reach 0dB. I think what you're hearing is what I'm playing. At those 2 particular second marks (4:40 and 4:46), I let two notes ring out together, and they happen to be a semi-tone apart, so it creates that really jarring sound for a second. On my monitors, it sounds fine in terms of distortion/clipping/etc.

If this isn't what you mean, then I'm not sure, it could be one of those factors you mentioned. I'm just recording in my basement so I basically have little to no control over natural resonance, etc.

No compression or limiters on anything, actually. I haven't really nailed down compression yet, it always ends up losing character, and the raw sound ends up sounding better. The solo track has a delay on it yeah, output is set to 3 or 4%, so it's super quiet.

mrd nice job man. I listened to the first clip and it was great. It had a different type of sound to it than some of the other clips posted here. Is that your song? I remember hearing the lead parts at 0:23 - 0:47 somewhere before. KH-602's rule! lol.

MY what nice tones you have. The first song was nicely done, aggressive sounding, an improvement over the last recording. I really enjoyed it.

On the second song/clip, I preferred these tones. What can I say, I like rectos.... ok marks too, but the two being played together is tonal bliss. When the song passed 1:38 it really got my attention, and the riff at 1:55 through 2:27 was sweet!

Very well done. Thanks for sharing.

@fpoon: Thanks man. A different type of sound in what way? Not sure what you're getting at... do you mean the tone of the guitar or the riffs or..? Yeah, it's my song. I've posted a clip of it up here before so maybe you heard it then. Yeah my 602 is my best guitar, sounds so damn good.

@MetalMatt: Thanks for listening man. I'm starting to get a lot better at mic-placement and setting up the board for a good sound. I need to get some better mics now I think, so that the true sound of these babies can really shine through. I prefer the tone of the second one as well. The Recto just has this perfectly sweet harmonic content for chords on the low strings... it's unbeatable. And the MarkIV has the aggressive sound.. mixed together they are awesome. I also had a bit of trouble micing up just the Mark IV on both cabs for Tank...took me about an hour to get a sound I was pleased with, even then it's not as good as I would've liked it. Gettin' better though.

ps - Thanks for the comments on the music, that's what matters most for me.

that one was awesome!!

Yeah, I was referring to the tone of the first clip. It had a little less gain then I usually hear but it was still really aggresive and sounded really nice with the drums etc.

Listened to the second clip and that's more of a sound I usually aim for. Nice riffs too, good job man.

@Elpeltero: thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!

@masque: Seems like more people prefer the 2nd one, maybe I oughta record the first clip with my Road King in the mix :p

@fpoon: I see what you're getting at. I will say that the tone of Tank sounds a bit muffled to me. The crispness and cutting, gainy edge of the MarkIV doesn't really translate that well in that recording. I think it's mostly because I'm only using two dynamic mics, which don't have the best high-end articulation, which is what you need to pick up the awesome nuances of high-gain sounds. I'm gonna be investing in 2 or 3 new mics within the next few weeks, so once I get those bad boys, I'll be sure to post up some new stuff. Also, keep in mind I can't turn any of my stuff up as loud as I'd like (loud enough that ear plugs are mandatory) so the power tube saturation isn't all there. Anyway, thanks for the comments though, I appreciate 'em. Glad you enjoyed my stuff.
