Hello everyone,

Its my first post here :D

I have a dual rectifier head amp and i was thinking of making a mod to connect both dirty channels to work in series  So before i went off and start modding it i was thinking of taking some expert advice first :D

So my questions are the following:
1) If i connect the green and the red channel to work in series at the same time .... will that create whisle noise backround sounds and is there a way to fix this issue ?

2) Should I connect them in series as they are OR i should put out of the circuit one of the two input buffers of the two circuits and put in only one of the two input buffers ? Any advice on that ?

Sorry my English are not so good....

Thank you all in advance!

first welcome to the board!! second why would you need to do such a mod? amps are not designed to run both channels at the same time ?

Depending on which version your speaking of the mod your suggesting is not possible on the dual rectifiers. On a two channel dual rectifier the only parts of the amp that are not shared between the two channels are the front panel controls and a few parts that are switched between the two. The signal path is identical for both channels and utilize the same tubes. On the three channel it would be possible to mod the amp so the green and red channel run at the same time. But the results would probley not sound very good. The two channels share the first and third gain stages so it would not be possible to feed the output of one into the other. Also even if it was possible the noise would be loud and it would not be possible to filter it out.

If your serious about moding your amps I would suggest learning how audio and tubes work and finding the schematics for the amp. Even a basic understanding of electronics and a quick search using google to find the schematics would have answered your question concerning the feasibility of a mod like that.

Thank you everyone!

Well.. I do have some knowledge ( moderate staff... still learing :) ) . First of all i found a schematic for it and it looks like you switch between each gain stage ( preamp clipping stage ) So i was thinking of instead using the red channel ... I could ( maybe ? ) remove the switch and put the green channel in front of the red channel and also lowering the gain of the green stage so it works like a sort of overdrive for the red .... So it would be like this...

Input buffer --> Green distortion stage ( lowered gain to 50% ) --> Red Channel ( full gain ) ---> output buffer

Just throwing some ideas...

And between the green channel and the red channel i could put an active filter to lower the 5Khz for about -12db ... and after the output of the red channel i could put another active filter to boost the 9Khz to about 12db...

What is your opinion about this ? :?:

Thank you all in advance!!! :D

Also this idea came to me when i saw the new DEAN DIME D-100 amp which has a switch that when turned on ... it uses both green and red channel at the same time giving amazing distortion !!! So i thought instead of buying this amp ( cause i love MesaBoogie so much ) I though i might do ( or try to do ) the same thing with my Dual rectifier amp head....
:D

P.S. By the way I asked "themusicfarm" about the new DEAN DIME D-100 AMP HEAD and it is solid state in the preamp section and not programmable through a chip like the line6 pedals ?

I don't think you could do it as both channels share the same resources.

Thank you for the reply :D

Well... the same resourses... you said... Hmmm... As i checked the schematic i saw that each channel is chosen by a switch so if you remove the switch and put the two channels to feed from the same source ( guitar input ) and put input->green channel->red channel->output ..... They would work in series ...so it would be like having the green channel as an overdrive for the red channel!! :D

Thanks ! Its great to be here!

I thought by doing this mod i could give some extra heavy metal sound to my amp ... like having it overdriven by an overdrive pedal but instead of a pedal i use the green channel instead.... thought it would sound cool :D
