Hey everyone. Still on a quest to get a good rhythm chug tone or lead tone with channel 2 and never have any luck. Not with a OD pedal in the front either. I have my main rythm dialed in on channel 3 using Extreme mode. Love it. So loud and thumps. Not as gainy either so I play a little harder and love it. So curious what you all use Channel 2 for and any advice on lead settings? I have my sliders set for channel 3 but it sucks for channel 2 Presets don't sound good IMO on channel 2 either. Unless does someone use a slider setting that works well for both channels? Thanks!

Honestly...

Ch2 is my "back up rhythm channel". I use ch1 for cleans (duh) and ch3 for my main rhythm and hit solo for leads.

I use ch2 when I wanna back down on the volume and be "nestled into the mix" and this is typically when our singer/guitar takes a lead on a couple songs. There's also a song we do where we ramp the volume up three times, so I end up using ch1,2, then 3 for in the end.

Depends if Im using the amp with FXloop engaged or not.
If its engaged, I use mine as Dirty Rhythm 1. (Crunch for aggressive fast stuff, Mark 1 (Graphic EQ off) for big fat vintage rock..Edge for some low gain blues stuff- Sticking to 1 usually for live) Channel 3 then provides the opposite voice. IE: If Ive got Vintagey rock courtesy of Mark 1 mode, one of the Mark settings will be 'The Other' more cutting and 'modern' tone, using the Solo switch to boost vol.

If Im going for slightly purer tone/regular phase with the FX loop disengaged, Channel 2 gets used as THE rhythm whilst channel 3 gets lead duty.

I use channel 2 on crunch as a crunchy rhythm tone with the preset dialled in somewhere around 10:00 to 11:00.

The presets are a little bright at home but they work well live.

I use ch2 crunch for rythm and ch3 extreme for lead, sharing the eq in an offset V with the treble sliders not going above the middle line. I find the tone WAY sweeter sounding when keeping the channel master low, around 9:30-10 and cranking the master. For a sweet liquidy lead tone in ch2 - its Mark 1, preset eq dialed to around 2 o-clock, bass knob nearly off. For an even spongier tone, set to tube @ 45 watts.

Hey thanks guys. I wish IIC+ or IV mode was on channel 2. I really need a nice rhythm hug tone and a sweat soaring lead tone for the two channels. I kinda like my recto more for at home because red and orange channels with a boost sound killer. I use the Mark V because for me and my band Extreme mode with less gain and clean sound phenomenal.

I find I use Ch1 and Ch2 more that Ch3 for most of what I'm doing (Classic Rock)..

Currently my setup is:

Ch1 for clean (in Fat mode) I use the Nova Drive on this channel as well.
Ch2 Crunch for Crunch/ryth and some lead I also switch to Mk1 for a couple songs..(Santana)
Ch3 MK IV for different lead tone (this works great for Slash)

I play a Parker Fly Classic with SD's so it is a uber clean guitar in the first place. These settings cover a lot of ground...

I use Ch2 Crunch a lot and love it!
I set my gain quite high in this mode 3-4 o'clock. It works great for rhythm and as an alternate lead voicing.

Just use Mark I mode for your leads then, or try crunch mode for your rhythm, then Mark IV for your leads...

Hey Jim.

I love Extreme mode for my Rhythm. I cannot seem to get a lead or similar crunch tone from channel 2 for the life of me.

(Youtube searches Pettruci vids. :)

I use channel 1 on tweed and ch 3 on extreme for when I'm playing with my band. I have to set them up to be quite cutting - lots of mids etc so they sound great when i'm playing with a band, but are too harsh to enjoy by themselves.

I set channel 2 up to a fatter, mid gain sort of mode on Mark 1 mode which sounds great when I'm playing by myself (much less ear fatigue), but wouldn't cut through with my band.

This way I don't have to tweak my amp when I'm writing or just jamming by myself, I've got a dedicated channel to be able to crank it and not kill my ears too much.

I've got the gain right in the right spot to clean it up by backing off the volume and splitting the coils of my guitar

I use crunch mode for a classic rock type of tone.

Rythm, riffs work with Crunch Mode awesome with the gain set around 4 - 5 and blues based tunes on Mark I mode. can't beat it with Mahog guitars man

It's my main rythm channel, I love it.

The gain is awesome for some british stuff, and it's a channel full of surprises, it always delivers something new :D

Same thing happened to me.
What I do is to use channel 3 with V shape eq for rhythm and disengage the eq for solo, I normally do this on MkIV but you can do it on any mode and if the gain was setup too low for soloing just add a tube screamer with low gain, high vol and you should be fine. When you disengage the eq your mids will come up and that makes you cut like a wife.. i mean a knife! :p
Make sure that the faders are not setup too high otherwise you will have a volume drop when turning the eq off.

Here is a video that I recently uploaded to YouTube to demonstrate tone.. (not performance).. I've been learning a lot and will learn more about recording.. but this is the point where I'm at right now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G27yt4KJVzc
Rhythm was the MkIIC+ with EQ and the solo was on Mark IV mode without eq and without boosting it with a tubescreamer.

I mainly use mark 4 mode and Channel one Fat mode but came across a killer tone using channel 2 in Edge mode. Really smooth and articulate. Gain 11:00 Pres 10:00 Treb 9 Mid 10:00 Bass 12:00 using EQ in Standard V700 a little above the bottom line. This amp has so many options its endless .

Well i work like this my friend

Ch 1 Tweed
Ch2 it is actually my main, i use mark 1 mode no Eq, its bigger in any way you can imagine it fits well in the mix for live and rehearsal, depends on what guitar am using for me, let me explain, when i use telecaster, and SG i use this as the main and almost the only overdrive sound, it cleans very well with the volume pot, and gives a lot of body to this particular guitars, i like Fat sound, creamy leads, for les paul and stratocaster i use this channel only for leads, because of the pickups i use in that guitars, for the strat the invader which is fat as hell, and for the les paul the full shred which actually its so fat too, keep in mind that i for the style of music i play its my main channel for dirty jobs.

Ch3 i use this channel as the backup channel or the "articulate riffs", i use mark IIC with EQ, for some riffs when i need to articulate, mostly riffs played in the fat strings, but with the same logic on which guitar im using, also i use this channel in triode, and i use it for some leads but not all, something i found with this amp is that depends so much what guitar im using , i played my strat for years and use that strat with the mark V for a year and a half, then when i bought the other guitars i started to experiment again with sound live and for what works better, its a mess if i try to explain to you all i do, because i know in my head what guitar for what song, also what channel for what guitar, and all that for what part of a song i do, its a lot of info,

but if theres anything i can say is you ll discover to much for this amp and you will never stop the learning, its a fenomenal amplifier , i believe because all the threads i read, that im one of the fews that uses this amp in a very different way, most people use petrucci settings, or the classic EQ, and theres nothing wrong with it, but the best advice is search for the sound you want in your head, i find to hard to believe that this amp cant do it , unless you love digital sound jaja

hope it helps.
