Okay, I have a series 2 single recto head into a recto 4x12 and I'm a no0b! Running guitar straight to the head it sounds great. I started running my pedal board in front of the head and now it sounds like I have class A breakup with the gain knob cranked. So, I remove the pedal board and of course the gain comes back.

obviously it's something on the pedal board, but I have no clue. If you need a layout of my pedal board, I'll draw one up

Thanks in advance!

Has to be a bad cable in the board, or a faulty pedal.

Add one pedal add a time between your amp and guitar, until the problem kicks in.

Did you try the loop and adjust the FX MIX? Dead battery will hurt things too. I have the same head. Put a VOX wah in front that had a tired battery, lifeless tone.

It had to be a tired battery, faulty power supply, bad cable, or a faulty pedal. I agree with what was already stated. Swap pedals and cables one by one

I'm also curious about exactly what pedals you have in your board if they're all going in front of the preamp. Certain types of pedals are designed to go up front (e.g., wah, overdrives, boosters) and some are designed to go in the effects loop (e.g., echo, delay, chorus, reverb). Depending on the circuitry, mixing them up might also be part of the source of your problem.
