I recently scored a deal on a Single Recto, Rev II. I'll probably sell my Dual if I settle on it. I'm curious about history/lore about the Singles, since there doesn't seem to be as much of it as there is with the Duals. When were the Single Rectos introduced? Is the gain channel more like the orange or red channel on the Dual? I've been over a few schematics, but they seem to be unreliable and a few of them even leave out the value of Presence pot, so it's hard to compare them. Is there any secret mojo in earlier runs of Singles like with the pre-500 Duals?

Welcome mremic01.
I think SRs first came out in the early 2000s, or maybe the late 1900s :p
I was not an informed buyer when I picked up my ROV v.2. I just wanted to have a tube amp that was made in USA.
When I first tried it, I heard the stereotypical Mesa sound, which I don't really use.
But after some more knob turning, I found some tones that I loved. There are many personalities inside this amp, just waiting to be found.
I am not familiar with DRs, so I could not compare.
I do know that this amp can be very charming and/or, take my head clean off :!:
Congrats on your acquisition

:p We could always create some lore of our own, just to see If anyone is paying attention

Thanks, that time period sounds about right. I don't see any references to the thing dating them as far back as the Duals.

I got my Single from UPS last week and so far I'm liking it much more than my Dual. It's just more manageable, gets some useable tone at bedroom volumes, and has less bells and whistles that I never bothered with anyway. My only two gripes with it are the lack of a 16 ohm output and the fact that you can't turn off the Output like you can with the Dual.

There are 16 ohm options shown for our 4 4 8 outputs in the Owner's Manual.
If you don't have one, you can download it from mesaboogie.com> owners manuals> page 4.
Mesa just updated their website.

I think they were introduced in the late 1980s or early 1990s, I remember hearing about one of the mid-90s alt rock groups using one. I've also seen references to them being nearly 30 years old. I do know they were in production before 2001, at the very least.

They were released in two versions, the primary differences being control order, Version 2 being able to take two types of tube, and the reverb tank. I'm also not sure if both versions had the presence pot. I know my v1 (with a v2 reverb tank) has the presence pot.

They are all-tube amps, with 12ax7s for preamp, and 6l6 power tubes (I have SED Winged C 6l6s in there and it sounds great.)

At least some have Mesa branded Black Shadow speakers, although I don't know if this one's stock.

It's a 2x12 cabinet mounting 1x12 in the center.

Most seem to go between 600 and 800 USD, although they have been seen as high as 1200 USD in my research.

I am pretty sure they weren't introduced until about the year 2000.
That could have been v.2. Google shows several people who say they got them in the mid 1990s, but that's mostly just forum posts. An actual source would be nice one of these days... I've emailed MESA/Boogie to see if they can shed any light on it.

I got a response!

Version 1 Rectoverbs ran from December 1998 to May 2001.
Version 2 Rectoverbs ran from May 2001 to January 2011.

My particular one shipped Sept. 4, 2001, and was an export version. However, this is a tad odd considering it seems to be mostly Version 1 with a Version 2 reverb tank.

Thanks noghiri for that info!
It sounds like yours is a transitional model. Does it have the Reverb control on the front or back?
My Series 2 has a Mesa Black Shadow (Celestion) in it. R50-0212x. I'm not sure when mine was made, but I have a hunch it's early '00s. I couldn't find any dates inside the brain box.

If you email Mesa, they'll tell you when it shipped.

That amp left here in 2002

I was close with my aprox. year 2000, late 98.

Just think, a few days later and you could have had a 9/11 amp.

Thank you very much Mr. Boogie Man.
She's still singing like a siren.
Could you elaborate on the "scrapple from the apple" I found on the CB :?:

Is there some lore there ?
