It seems on my single Rec, channel 1 wont get any sound out of it not unless I crank the output and and master volume, and i get very little sound. I checked everything, my gain isn't at 0 either. I justed replaced my tubes a couple weeks ago, and last week my clean channel was working perfectly! Any ideas on what to do? Thanks.

Swap V2 and V3. If channel 1 now works and channel 2 doesn't, it's a faulty tube - the one that was in V2, since it's the only tube that only affects the clean channel (the V2A half). It's not the KT77s since they're power tubes, and the problem is in the preamp.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have a sticking relay - which is possibly more likely, but try the tube swap first.

Thanks man, this fixed it. I also cleaned the tube sockets when swapping them, I heard non-clean tube sockets is a problem for most people.

That's nailed it - the problem is the tube that was in V2 and is now in V3. Half of it is dead for some reason. If you look carefully at them when the amp is on you might see that only one side of the tube is glowing orange (a little spot of light at the top and bottom, instead of two) - but not necessarily, a tube can be dead and still look like it's working.

Buy a couple of 12AX7s - you always need a spare tube for situations like this, which tend to happen at the worst possible time...

How does one clean a tube socket??? :?:

Bob from eurotubes says you can use computer cleaner on an old tube and work it in and out of the socket a few times to get rid of dust and dirt. When I first changed my tubes a couple weeks ago there was noise, like crackling. When I cleaned the sockets it was gone.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but did you re-tube the whole amp with tubes from Eurotubes? And if so, do you not have the old tubes to use as test/spares?

Yes, that's correct. I do have spare tubes but I'm not sure if they will work with the rest because the ones from eurotubes are modified for high gain, while my old one isn't. Well I'll try it out anyway and see what happens.

You cannot "modify" tubes for high gain. They are simply selected from normal production 12AX7s, with the highest gain chosen - tubes vary inherently over a fairly wide range of performance characteristics, and you just pick the ones with the most gain. At best, you won't get more than about 10% extra gain this way though.

Use your old tubes - as many as necessary, probably just one - until you can get more of the ones you want, or if you can't really hear a difference, stick with the old ones...

There is no special magic about any new-production tubes, they are all just tested more thoroughly or less thoroughly from the same basically poor quality manufacturing. Don't be fooled by hype like Mullard or Tung-Sol "reissues" either - they are just modern tubes with old names painted on the outside. Some of them do sound better than generic factory-branded tubes, but they still have the same consistency and reliability problems.
