Hi

I plan to buy a Rectifier amp but I think 100 watt will be useless for me, too powerful. So I hesitate between the Single Rectifier and the Dual Rectifier 2010 (switchable 50/100 watts).

Apart from the many additional features of the Dual :

Is there a real difference of sound (especially using Modern channel) between the Single Rect and Dual Rect 2010 in 50 watt mode ? 'Cause a reseller in France told me that the 50 watts mode was more dedicated to clean/crunchy sounds, to have the "pure Mesa disto", I will have to use the 100 watts mode... Is that true ?

Is there a real difference of sound (especially using Modern channel) between the Single Rect and Dual Rect modified by removing 2 6L6 tubes on 4 ?

Thanks for your help

The tonal and volume differences between 100 watts and 50 watts are minimal. Trust me, if 100 watts is too much for you, 50 watts isn't going to be any better.

100 watts is a tiny bit punchier and has more power tube headroom than a 50 watt amp, but that's about it. They'll both do metal if you want them to.

+1

If they made a full-featured single Recto, I would buy one right away. 100 TUBE watts is extremely loud. My volume at practice sits around 10:30 on the master output, with the channel volumes the same. I bet you could kill small things with one if you wanted too!

Yeah, the volume difference from 50w to 100w is only 3db. The bigger difference is in headroom and breakup.

So either way your gonna have an amp that gets really really loud. However, my experience with them is that you can get some great tones at very very low volumes.

Id go for the 100w, just for the added features. Youll be happy with either one though.

Get a 50watt head and a Marshall cab (1960ax) with Greenbacks. That will keep the levels down a little bit.
The big advantage with the Dual will be the three channels and the extra headroom should you ever need it!

If you have the money man just get the dual, you'll kick yourself later because having a lead channel is essential (unless you just need rhythm). You won't notice the volume difference - like everyone said theyre both loud as f**k.
