Hi - I am a newbie, proud owner of an Express 5:25 1x12. I know this is the Lonestar section of the board - but nobody seems to be replying to my question in the Express area - so I thought I would try here - since I'm guessing the question is more universal.

Anyway I am filling out the warranty papers, and I noticed that there is no serial number stamped on the amp anywhere - the number is just sloppily sharpie-penned on a little production/QA card.

I worry about someone stealing 'my precious' and me not being able to prove by serial number that it is mine!

Am I missing something? Is the serial number stamped in metal somewhere that I am not seeing?

Hey there, congratulations.

I don't have my mesa's in front of me, but I think if you look on the chasis on the tube side, the serial should be on a tin badge with the mesa logo in one of the corners closest to the back of the amp.

Thanks - I looked again (had to turn the amp upside down) - and I found it.

anyway to decipher the production date from the serial?

"Unfortunately there is no "system" to our serial numbers. They all basically start with a letter designation for the amp model) (i.e. "RK-000435" for "Road King # 435") and are followed by a 6 digit number. All amp start at zero and continue in sequence until the amp is discontinued." [Source: Marcus Daniel, Mesa/Boogie, Customer Service/Product Specialist, email 7/2/2007]
