So I blew some EL34 tubes in my Mesa Dual Rec. ('07 model), and was thinking about options before replacement. One of which is to find a Stilletto Deuce to demo, but dunno if I can find one within an hour or so drive without having to place an order for one (thus commit to buying). Another option was to change the type of tube I use. I don't have them in front of me, but the Mesa EL34s I had in there were rated Green, and had a number "10" associated with them, both pair being the same. What type of options do I have with replacement tubes? How about replacing the rectifier tubes? Using KT77s or KT88s? I wanted a "darker" sound people say comes from a Stilletto. Then again I've never played one or heard one live before. Additionally, I do not want to sacrifice tube life (i.e. putting in a tube that will only last 1/2 a year, etc.). I was always under the impression that a tube will last 1.5-2 yrs? However, using an EL34 in the dual rec, the owner's manual says it will last less than a 6L6 (quoted at ~2 yrs). So I took that to mean 1.5-2 yrs. If I went with the same EL34s, should I replace the quartet, or just the tubes from the pair that blew?

All Power Tubes. Stiletto's are on the bright side. Way bright. Just get the Mesa tubes.
