Alright it was an ******* move not to write a short review
So the Roadster is in. I've played around 3 hours today dialing in tones mostly (doh). I'm confident that I can fly a space shuttle now, not that Roadster is any different
Lets see.. Rectifiers I've owned: Tremoverb, Rectoverb, 2 channel Dual-Triple rectos. 3 Channel Dual-Triple rectos. Pretty much everything except a Single recto and a Road King.
So in theory, I've played them all.
One thing I will say, WITH CONFIDENCE, is that Roadster and Rectoverb/Tremoverb are THE ones to get IF you need very good cleans and very good distortion in one amp. Cleans on 2 channel DR's and TR's are not nearly as good as Tverb/Rverb or Roadster.
Distortion? This is NOTHING like 3 channel rectos. I'm confident that this is the exact same thing I had on every 2 channel dual recto I had. Same exact sound. Gets smooth on vintage mode very easily, million times warmer and articulate. Plus, you have features to spare. I'm gonna be using all 4 channels (Clean, Slight Overdrive, Mid-gain Rhythm Chug, Liquid Solo)
Things I've realized in Roadster :
- Master knob has way more effect on the character than other Rectos I've owned.
- Manual's factory presets are WAY more accurate than on other recto manuals. In other rectos, I'd set the settings and the tones I got were crap. In here, they are indeed the tones that they are meant to be.
- Mid knob feels more responsive for some reason. I have no idea why.
- Reverb sounds way better than tremoverb's imo
So that's pretty much it. I love it
Oh and, if you're a guy who can live with less features, a good distortion and a good clean, I'd just get a tremoverb and save some bucks.
If you need 4 channels like me and you think you can use the extra features to your advantage, Roadster is worth every single penny.
