I'd bet Russ can help me out with this one but if anybody else can chime in please do so. So I have a 50 watt JCM 800 single channel amp from 1990. Know anything about these amps? I know the 100 watters went through some negative circuit changes in the late 80's but from what I've read the 50 watters went unchanged - that is other than some construction methods changing ie they were no longer built with flying leads coming out from the pots and the inputs were pcb mounted.

So what I'm wondering is:

Other than some construction methods changing were there any negative changes made to the circuit of the 50 watt single channel JCM 800's?

Other than the actual components themselves (diodes, resistors, caps, etc.) being changed in brand over the years, I do not recall ever seeing a change in the circuit itself while discussing the JCM800 2204. Sure there was a little sonic variation but that is just tube amps in general. You can't sit identical amps side by side without hearing slight variations. As rabies said there was some filtering and power changes that occured in the 2203 but none of that carried over to the 2204.
