I read some old posts. Mesa originally said this was an option, then removed it from their manuals. Some users were doing it and liked the results. People gave contrary advice about how to do it. Some said the bias switch had to be in EL34; others said 6L6. Some said the EL34s had to be the outer pair, but others said inner pair.

So, has anyone been doing this for a while now? How do you like the results? How do you run it? (How do you set the bias switch, and where do you put the EL34s)?

don't do it. 10w will never be right. it'll put one el34 in parallel with one 6l6. the circuit is not setup for this to run properly.

additionally, biasing will be wrong either way if you mix them. the safest would be to run in 6l6 bias mode, but then the el34s will be too cold. it's not the same biasing system as the mark iv due to the multi-watt feature.

just don't do it. electrically it's risky. you can fry your tubes at best and your transformers at worst (very, very bad and expensive).

edit: i guess...at best, just your tone will suffer. but if that's the case, why bother mixing? the benefits are outweighed by the possible warranty invalidation.
