So last night I was able to crank up the Roadster 1-12 combo with the new tubes in it. I could really notice the difference. The combination of the EL34's and 6L6's retained a good recto vibe but the EL34's gave it a little more midrange bite and cut.

The other guitar player was using a Rectoverb with a 4-12 and it was a good contrast. For practice tomorrow night I'm going to put the original mesa 6L6 tubes back in to see how the two amps sound together. It might be a little recto heavey but I think our individual tones are different enough to make it still work well.

u've got 2 6l6's and 2 el34's running at the same time? i didn't know you could do that. did u just get mesa el34's and plug em in there? do u leave the bias switch on 6l6's or switch to el34's?

Yes, it's a specially matched set of tubes from eurotubes. 2 6l6's and 2 EL34's that run in el34 mode.
