Hey, I just got my 2x12 Roadster combo delivered Friday. I've been playing around with it and love the potential, but I'm not used to an amp with this many bells and whistles to have to adjust. could anybody point me in the general direction of some of these guitarists' sounds? I'm playing an LP with 490/498 pickups. appreciate any help anybody can give.

Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains (mainly the metal sound from "Facelift")

Mike McCready from Pearl Jam (both the dirty sounds as well as the cleans like on Yellow Ledbetter)

Rossington/Collins from Skynyrd

Angus Young from AC/DC

Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top (La Grange and Sharp Dressed Man)

SRV (yeah, I know. I have a Strat too)

Hendrix

Metallica

This is a great question. I would be curious about this too as it pertains to my Dual Rect. You might try visiting the "tones" section of the board for more info.

I noticed a couple of things when I first got my Roadster. The settings in the manual (IMHO) sound much better with EL34s than 6L6s so I have recently discovered... I will try to post some settings for you later that I found quite usable (I have a SG Standard and Firebird Studio with the same pickups). It took about a month for me to dial into my settings though, its a fun journey though. TONS of options with the amp.

But just as ESP123 stated - chk out the rigs and tones section for settings. I believe there is also a place in the annoucements section for tones too you might found helpful.

ok, I think I got one pretty close....

this sounded pretty good for Metallica "Master of Puppets"/"...And Justice For All" era on the bridge pickup with the guitar's volume around 7-8:

channel 4/ modern/ bold/Diode switch/reverb about 9:00
gain 3:00
master 9:00
treble 3:00
bass 3:00 (or slightly less for less boom)
mid none at all
presence 9:00

overall output about 12:00 for loud bedroom level

that one sounded pretty good, though a tiny bit "boomy"

Would be hard to give definitive settings, as settings will vary depending on the guitar. However, general settings would be that them SRV tones are mostly on channel 1 using tweed settings, with a Tubescreamer at the front. You can also try the Brit mode on channel 2 for that. After all, he did blend a bunch of amps together...

As for those more rock orientated tones, you might want to try Brit mode on channel 2, with the gain and treble cranked to around 3 o'clock for both. Then set the rest to taste. If it's too gainy for you, turn down the gain knob...

Hendrix would be a tad hard to cope if you are really picky. Best I can think of would be the Brit mode on channel 2...

Here's another that sounded pretty good to me......

Lynyrd Skynyrd for overdriven songs like "What's Your Name?", "Needle and the Spoon", and "Gimme Three Steps"......

Channel 2/ Brit/ Bold or Spongy/ Tube Recto/ Reverb about 9:00
Overall Output 12:00 (I'm also using a THD Hotplate set at about -12db so if you don't have a Hotplate, adjust the Output knob as needed)
Master volume 9:00
Gain 4:30
Treble 12:30
Mid 3:00
Bass 12:00
Presence about 9:00

please somebody, try to help out with some settings here. Thanks.

The guitar I mainly use is a 1993 Gibson Les Paul Standard with 490/498 pickups.

To me, Hendrix has always been a pretty easy one (with a Strat). it's really about the neck or middle pickup with a ton of reverb and a wah pedal. I may work on that one next.

I'm starting to get the hang of adjusting this. the Metallica and Skynyrd settings I came up with sound pretty close to me but I hope some more people will throw in some advice.

Read the manual so you understand how the EQ's interact, and twiddle away. And alot of the artists you mentioned are Marshall/Marshallesque flavored, why did you get a Roadster? Just wondering.

versatility. of those guys on that list, I think Hendrix and Angus Young are the only 2 that used Marshalls exclusively. most of the others used a variety of amps. Metallica and Jerry Cantrell used Mesa at one point or another.

as for reading the manual, I've read it about 3 times already. but I don't think the sample settings in the book are all that great.

I don't think they are with the stock 6L6s... I found them much more useful with EL34s... ironically.
