First off, I am really loving this amp. I really enjoy it more than my single recto I had!
But I have some questions...
The bass on this amp is really present, much more than the single recto. On all channels my bass is at 9:00, if i go anywhere past its really muddy. On my single rec i had it at 3:00 and didnt sound nearly as bassy!
Secondly, I cant seem to dial in the gain over 1:30 or 2:00 without it getting really fizzy, and a weird thumping or crackling noise is heard in the background. Is this a bad preamp tube?

I find this is cab, volume and gain dependant. Through my Orange cab I had to keep the bass low like that to keep it under control. Once I switched to a Recto cab I found I could actually turn the bass up more without loosing clarity. As for volume and gain... the more gain the less bass unless you're going for a Big Muff sorta vibe, and volume tends to add it's own bottom end so I usually tend to back the bass off as the volume goes up.

Fizzy can be normal. A couple tricks you can try is turning down the volume on your guitar a bit so it doesn't drive the V1 quite as hard and bringing your tone pot down a couple notches so you're not feeding the amp as much treble.

The thumping/crackling sounds odd. I'd suspect a bad preamp tube, but I've never had that one happen to me so I don't know for sure.

thump/crackling could be a tube problem. Either a pre or power. Ya these amps have and extra side order of bass. Sticking a maxonod808 in front of the amp will help with the bass/muddiness. Though the maxonod808 would probably enhance your thump/crackling problem due to the overdriving of the tubes. First, if you have an active guitar, check the battery first. Then check the preamp tubes and power tubes.

Mine gets fizzy above 1:30 and the yes you need to keep the bass low to avoid flub (or get a pedal to tighten it up), but I agree the crackling doesn't sound normal.

My Roadster can get fizzy with the gain in this region too. I find that backing off the presence helps. As for the Bass I agree that the cab has alot to do with it. I find that my rectifier 2x12 helps make it sound focused while retaining girth.
