Hello,

just bought a roadster head :D very very happy with it but there is a problem. this popping noise!!!!!!! it only happens engaging channel 3. the popping noise is louder the first time that switch is engage, later on the popping noise becomes softer and sometimes there is no popping noise( this only happen when engaging channel 3 on the foot switch)... at this point i do not know if there is sometthing wrong with the switch or something else that i need to look at.

this amp is brand new so i am thinking of taking it back to get it fix but if anyone has had similar problem and would like to share some info. i'll appreciate it....

thanks

Hey! Congrats on the purchase, I just bought a Roadster head myself last Saturday. I had the same issue too, but was able to resolve it completely. First off, there seems to be some "static" build-up within the Roadster that causes that horrendous popping sound when engaging channel 3. To resolve this, simply turn on your amp, and leave it in stand-by (which is something you should be doing anyways to lengthen tube life), and while in stand-by, cycle through all of the channels for about a minute or so. Then, take the Roadster out of stand-by, but make sure you are on channel 3 when doing so. Doing this should completely cure the popping noise issue.

Oh yeah, FYI, if you are playing your amp at mere bedroom levels, you may not be able to rid yourself of this issue completely. When playing at bedroom levels, the popping noise is definitely lessened, but not completely missing. Oh yeah, one more thing, this popping noise issue is not heard at gigging levels at all.

Good luck, and if you have any more trouble, just go back and mess with the cycling of the channels in stand-by again! Or PM me! Later.

thanks for sharing this info, i'llbe trying your approach.... it is a versatile amp!!!!

can is ask you another question?? previously i owened a single rectifier and compare to my roadster, i notice a volume difference using the same settings ( this difference only happens between 7 and 9 0'clock on the output control) my roadster is very quiet at 8 to 8.5 O'clock.

just wondering if your roadster shows the same volume characteristics than mine??

thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions :D

Hey! How did you make out with the popping noise issue? As for volume differences, I wouldn't know because this is my first Mesa. Compared to the other Marshall and Fender amps I've owned, I can tell you the Mesa is much more compressed than most amps. This may lend to a slight difference in volume, especially compared to previous Rectos. Do you enjoy this amp more than the Single Recto? Which amp has better overall distortion and which has more of the classic Recto chunk?

Good luck with everything.

followed your advise, now everything is under control. the volume issue solved too!! the problem with the volume was that i was trying to have unity volume for all channels and i was setting channels 1 and 2 with the switches on clean. as soon as i switched them to tweed and brit, the volume in ch1 an ch2 was increase meaning that i have to increase the master volumes for ch3 and ch4 so the overall volume was increase!!!!

i traded in the single rectifier in order to get the roadster.... basically i had the single rec.for about two weeks.... it is a great work horse amp( a little bit brighter than the roadster) but i needed more versatility :D . the roadster is the amp that would cover all the styles of music i enjoy!!!!!!

thanks
