Hey guys,

I used to post on here under a different screen name but it's been a while and I forgot what all the info was on that one, so, I created a new one. Glad to be back and I definitely look to be able to contribute to the forums as well as learn on here.

I am a relatively new Roadster owner, I got it last summer brand new and since then I've been running it through my old Peavey 4x12 with stock peavey speakers. I'm finally able to start considering buying a new cab and am caught between a few options. I was weighing Mesa vs Orange for a while but finally settled on Mesa. Now I'm just stuck between getting a 4x12 and a 2x12.

I'm a college student who lives 2 hours from home when I'm at school and I haven't brought my amp down here a) because I think a half stack is a bit much for a dorm room and b) i don't want it stolen. If I had a 2x12 I would be more apt to bring it here namely because it's smaller. I like the convenience and portability of a 2x12 but still consider the 4x12 and I'm not sure why. I would like to play shows eventually but for now I'm just writing and playing my own stuff on my own. Any of you guys who use either 2x12's or 4x12's or even both, please let me know your thoughts and maybe how you personally weighed these similar options and came to a conclusion.

I dont own a roadster but I have owned a mesa 2x12 and 4x12 at the same time. I loved the 2x12 recto cab for portability but the 4x12 has a "boomy" tone that i fell in love with. The bass and overall clarity of the 4x12 won me over. the 2x12 sounds amazing also and at this moment i am considering another 2x12 in order to "shrink my rig" so i can be more mobile. At your age with no band I vote for 2x12, its very usable on stage and with it mic'd through a PA it will slam hard anyway. Go with portability in my opinion.

I do not hesitate to recommend Mills acoustics.

I've heard about Mills Acoustics, but I haven't heard much about them or what they can do.

how much tighter is a 2*12 vs 4*12.
Ive got a 4*12 but thinking of adding a 2*12
recto cab that is!

I've got the roadster 2x12 and a recto 4x12 and i find the 4x12 has much bigger sound and better bottom end. i sometime put them both together if the gig is big enough, but even the other guitarist looked at me the first time we played and said i've got way more bottom end than him. Sure its heavy but it has wheels!

I addressed recto vs roadster 2x12's in prev posts. it may be helpful to search those out as well.

good luck.

Thanks for all the input, guys. It's definitely helping me sort this out.

I looked at your reviews Fixxer, and you definitely make them sound spectacular, however I think I'm going to stick with a mesa cab of some sort. I would potentially change my mind if I could play through one before purchasing it.

Now, I've got the brand that I want decided on. What size? I have a 4x12 right now and I can get away with it when my parents are home. I know that sounds really awful, but I'm almost 20 and still in college. I'll be moving out into my own place in the fall of 2010, so even with an apartment, could I get away with using a 4x12? I also plan to move out of state for graduate school, so there's the issue of moving it to another state entirely which I suppose isn't a huge deal when I don't have much other stuff aside from a couple guitars, clothes, and personal items. It could all fit in a UHaul I suppose.

Sorry, guys just looking for some input on what size I should get and hopefully I can come to a good conclusion.

Wow i'm getting my posts linked to now... nice. I took fixxer's advice and i'm happier now then when i wrote that review. Truly in my eyes the best cab out there and their price point is right there with your Mesas and VHTs.
