I investigated a little and it seems that the pedal is no longer released by Zoom, right?

What OD's do you use and think fit better with your Rectifier?

What do you think about the Digitech Bad Monkey? Still waiting opinions on this one :)

Hi Bruno,

I don't know what style of music you play.

I range from clean, to mild drive, to rock, to heavy and everything in between. So depending what I'm playing, I'll use a pedal (or pedals) that suit(s).

I like the MI Audio Tubezone (did you check youtube?) and sometimes cascaded with the MI Audio Crunch Box. The Zoom Hyper Lead is good. I also use the Zoom Tri-Metal (very high gain and amazing low end) and Zoom Power Driver (yes, I have all three Zoom pedals). You can only buy these Zoom's 2nd hand.

I have the OCD and BB+ preamp pedals but I tend to cascade these with other pedals.

I have an Ibanez Fat Cat which I think is good, too (cannot buy new) but I EQ after it.

Other pedals that I have but can't remember what they sound like with the recto: Rat (vintage), Fulltone Fulldrive, Wampler Pinnacle (not too good with recto but great with JSX), Marshall Guvn'r (original, not bad at all, sound good with the recto), Ross overdrive (original), Maxon SD9 (not bad, more gain/gritty than TS9), HBE Power Screamer (heaps of gain, good build - may suit you?) and a few others that I can't think of right now.

I'm reluctant to say 'buy this pedal' because your taste will be different to mine. I tend to favour pedals that have more than just a 'tone' control, even though most of the ones I have do. This is why I usually put an EQ pedal after these pedals. With the MI Audio, I don't use an EQ pedal as it has plenty of tone dials.

I also understand your situation with trying different pedals as they may not be available to you. Also the risk you have in buying one and not being able to return it if you're not happy. It's a difficult position to be in.

Maybe to start-
1. buy a TS9 / TS808 type pedal. Most on this board use them. A cheaper TS is the Ibanez TS7. It's supposed to be the same as a TS9. I have one and I think it's good (I don't get too carried away with the "original chip, sounds better than the best blah blah blah..." advertising.
2. buy an EQ pedal (I recommend this). The TS pedals have a tone control only. If you can't get the tone you want, the EQ pedal will help. Traditinally, TS type pedals drop the bass volume so you may want to add some in after the pedal.

Can you go to local gigs and see what other people are using? Talk to these guys and ask if they'd be willing to come by your place with their pedals (serve a cafe latte.....lol). This may be a good starting point for you. It may be an alternative before buying anything.

Check youtube for the pedals I've mentioned. If I had a lot of time, I'd record a few pedals for you. Look, if I can this weekend, I'll do it, but I'm not promising you. It's very busy this time of the year.

OK.... enough from me (for now....)

Thanks very much Blaklynx

I've been playing for the last 15 years and I think I have a great technique and some skills as a composer. I'm also teaching guitar and theory in a music school.

I'm in a Progressive Rock/Metal band, just starting, and I'm also working in a solo project. The sounds are about Dream Theater, sometimes more heavy than that, for the progressive project and in the solo project think about Steve Vai's kind of sound.
So I need the tight sound for the solos, legato, etc. I'm searchig a pedal to do just that, but doing it fine.Keep in mind that the pedal is to be used in the high gain channels, just to tighten. The Maxon 808 didn't really amazed me. I was thinking in trying the Fulltone OCD but I guess it won't tighten the sound any more than the Maxon.

So I've been told about the Digitech Bad Monkey. I will try one soon. And yes, I'm thinkin in a MXR 108 EQ too.

OK, I understand what you like.

Here's the link to the MI Audio Tubezone demo on youtube from user burgerman666. He's a fellow Aussie and tests many pedals. Good player, too. The sound quality is pretty good. Does some VH type stuff which you'd be interested in as far as technique. Check out other vids he has of other pedals. He tests the pedals into a clean amp so you can understand what the pedal does.

Also, check other peoples vids of the same type of pedal. You may find someone who pushes a recto amp.

Cheers...

Thanks

I've already checked many videos, article and posts in forums. But it's never too much. I'm more interested in seing pedals pushing the amp because that's how I intend to use it.

I may try a Bad Monkey and a ZW-44 soon. I'm more keen to the Bad Monkey, but I'll have to try them.

You said right, there are many pedals that you all told that I cannot find in stores here in Portugal, so I can't try them. :?
And I really can't afford to buy them just as an experience...

What about the Roadster's serial nr.? Can't you really help me with this? I bought used and really want to know that

Thanks a lot guys. Keep talking :)

Hi Bruno,

No chance to record anything. Far too busy at this time. I'll do something over the break. I have 2~3wks off. Hopefully it's not too late for you. You may find something in the meantime. Don't give up.

Hi rectifier

I'm sure they do, but it's not that easy and cheap to send my amp from Portugal to NY. For the same amount there are another options, like sell the Roadster and get another amp. But I already said that this one is not easy as well, here.

However I had already seen their site and I confessed I'd been tempted. There's also Tonehunter in Germany that do some mods. But either way it is costly and I believe that it is not the best option.

Thanks

Hi Bruno,

Long time no speak......

OK, I recorded some stuff. Used the MI Audio TubeZone, Fulltone OCD, Zoom Hyper Drive pedals. Just guitar stuff, no drums or bass. I'll explain in another post what I did.

I have to edit these so give me a few days. Anyway, where can I post these recordings? MySpace is one place, I suppose. Compression would kill some of the tone. Anyway.... If anyone knows of a better place, please reply.

What a crap day it was. Hot, 38DegC here in Melbourne, Australia. Our cooler was working hard and in these conditions, hands perspiring. Very uncomfortable to play so some sloppy playing. It couldn't be worse for recording. Actually, tomorrow is going to be 43DegC!

Hear from you soon.
