So on Saturday's gig, I hit the solo button & the sound cut out!
Fiddled with the footswitch DIN lead, my guitar lead, but still got random cut outs.
Put a fan behind it (it was fookin hot on stage) & no more issues.
So it looks like it overheated.
Are Boogies prone to this? I thought the Roadster had cooling fans inside, but I couldn't see/hear any.
It wasn't backed up against anything, so plenty of airflow.
It seemed to happen on Channel 4 - gain on almost full, 100W & diode rectification. And Bold on the front.
It's only done 4 gigs & 3 rehearsals - I expect a bit better for the money

Yep it did cut out when the solo function was off - I first got it when I stood on the button for a solo & nada!
Well, it's that lovely liquid cascading gain that Mesa's do so well! I don't use it all the time - only on about 5 songs.

What brand/type of preamp tubes are you running? Sounds like you may be pushing a tube in the cathode follower position too hard causing the amp to cut-out.

With the gain at or near max you are feeding more signal into those preamp tubes than they are designed to handle, especially in ch 4.

Hey Trolley -

I'd be more inclined to think the problem would either be in the footswitch or footswitch cable for starters not plugged in all the way or the DIN cable having slipped out of a solid connection after being stomped on a couple of times at a higher energy show  ???

Has the amp failed the same way again since? I imagine you've powered the amp up again since the show?

Whether or not it was hot onstage, more important, was the amp itself (the chassis mostly) hotter than you've been used to or hotter than it gets at rehearsals? There's no fan in the Roadster but that's because it doesn't really need one. Overheating hasn't been an issue on that amp although a failing tube in Cathode Follower positions has been responsible for what you've described before. Did the amp start working again at the show or was that it for the night?

Look forward to more detail and hopefully getting this figured out.

I had this problem before. I switched from Recto to Diode and it stopped it. Then I trouble shoot it by changing one of the rectifier tube and solved the problem. I then switched back and forth from Diode to Recto for a while to make sure that was the problem and good enough by replacing both the rectifier tubes solved the problem.

I would like to add tho' that on my Roadster (mine is 2006 model) the Mesa Boogie Preamp tubes V2 and V6 were weak. I experimented with JJ's, Mullard, Penta, EH and Shuguang 8th and 9th Gen, all were good but with different characteristics.

For the power amp section, this amp was biased cooled from Mesa. You can Mod this by replacing the K22 with a bias mod and really open up the full potential of this amp.

Eventually, you will experience noise from your tubes going through your speakers. A lot of people suggests a lot of things to stop this. Can get expensive but there is an easy fix for this. If you have a problem with or any of you have a problem with this let me know and I have a very inexpensive solution.

Keep Rockin! My mesa (i called her betty) was 4 years old yesterday but she screams like a 30 yr old brat.

I ran it again at a gig on Saturday, but this time I put the power down to 50W. No issues at all.
The stage at the gig where it cut out was small, and all our shows are high energy! But the vent on top was so hot you couldn't touch it, which isn't usually the case. And yes, it was fine after we put the fan blowing on it - and we'd fiddled with some leads. So who knows?
Anyway, since I don't have any gigs for 2 weeks, it's back to the shop tonight, who are going to send it back to the distributor for them to look at.

Just realised I never updated this!
So it went back to the shop & they couldn't find anything.
I'm now certain that I stood on the f/s cable & partially removed the plug!
Since then I've had no issues
