Been pretty bored lately, I'm nowhere near my guitars and amps. I bought a road king awhile back. Didnt get terribly too much time to fart around with it. I've been on youtube watching clips of the mark IV and the lead tone is out of control. I watched one clip of the king and it was pretty decent but I think the credit is deserved towards the player. Just wondering if allot of you guys here have good setting for a nice smooth lead tone. im guessing to start with channel 3 vintage and start from there but just wanted to see what you all have to say. Thanks

I know a lot of guys use Ch 4 as a lead tone and use Ch 3 for their overall distorted tone. I personally use each channel as its own tone, utlitizing all 4. No real "lead" tone to cut through the mix; just varations of tone between songs/parts. I use my guitar controls or an effect if I need a push or have an interesting passage to play. That's just me though... and SPEND TIME WITH YOUR AMP! If I have learned anything about Mesa it is time well spent!

Really more of a side note to the topic but another band that my band played with last weekend the guy had a RK. I was really excited to hear how it sounded... disappointed. Didn't take advantage of the power tubes nor was the tone very good overall. Granted could have been guitars, tubes, settings, his chain, his personal tone... either way I didn't care for it AND I know they are capable of much more.

There is a "settings" post, you could look at that
