Ok, I just got a RK series 1 in a trade. The amp seems to be working fine for the exception of the progressive linkage that is not able to combine all three pair of power tubes for 150w. I'm sending it to mesa for repair cause I don't have a reliable tech locally.

But, other than that, I do find channel 1 to be weak and distorted. By that I mean that I can't get a decent clean sound with good headroom. I even tried the manual's versa clean setting and it sounds awful. I tried petrucci's setting and the same thing, it just doesn't sound right.

Do I have a bad channel 1? Or is this a normal behavior of the ch1 on the RK series 1?

Thanks, JAMz

That's not normal. You should check the rear panel and make sure the speaker selection switch is in the appropriate toggle position (this is very important).

If that doesn't work, you might wanna just replace all of the tubes.

Yeah man, I did all that. I have checked and tried everything; new tubes, different cabs, different settings on the back,....all that.

I have played and owned a lot of boogies but this is my first experience with a RK. And I can tell you, I've never seen such a terrible sound on a boogie clean channel. I hope it is an issue with the amp and not something normal because I will be extremely disappointed if this is "normal" for the RK 1

....Any other RK 1 users out there?

Hey Jamz,
I'm having the same problem with my RoV. Watch my thread too, hopefully one of us will find a solution.

I tried new tubes to no avail. The amp is going to mes next week to be serviced. I'll tell you all later if this was really an issue with the amp or not.n Thanks

Welcome to my Roadking world.... sent my Roadking out four times to my local guitar store and once to Mesa.

tinkering around with tubes or bad power may have been the reason but right now I LOVE my clean tones...

Anyhow keep up posted on your roadking
