Hi Guys,

First post here, got a quick question on the Electra Dyne Head.

Where is the reverb tank mounted and is there any difference between the tank installed in the reduced width model and the standard wide model. I am about to buy but thought I'd like to get some inside info first.

The shorter head fits nicely on the Recto Cab with the two vertically mounted 12's and this suits my needs better than a 4 x 12 cab.
I would hate to think that the shorter width head would have a smaller inferior reverb than the standard width head.

Thanks in advance for any help, great looking site you have hear. Looking forward to joining the Electra Dyne club soon :)

Cheers,
Andy.

The "long" tank is 16.75 inches, which should fit even the narrow head shell.
AFAIK, the tanks mounted in combos, open side down, in the bottom of the cab, are different than the ones mounted with the open side facing up.

The reverb tank in the head is mounted at the top of the cabinet above the chassis. I have the medium head that you are interested in and the reverb sounds great to me. The medium head also looks and sounds great with the 2x12 vertical Recto cab.

This is the setup I'm looking at purchasing.

Ha, that is the one I have played ! Have you seen it for your self ? If not, I can tell you it is in perfect condition. The only reason I did not get that one was because I wanted an open back speaker box.

Haha, small world. I see you are also from the land downunder :) Are you in Canberra?

Great to hear you actually know the amp. I needed something a little bigger than my 30 watt combo's for a new project and have always liked the Electra Dyne. Did a little looking and found this one.

What setup do you have then J.J. Did you buy from Pro Audio?

Cheers,
Andy.

Hi Andy, yes in Canberra. Where are you ?

I have the medium head in black and use it with a 1x12 Express cab (C90 Speaker). Pro Audio is where I bought it. The express 1x12 is virtually the same as the ED 1x12, but the look is changed with the grill. I really wanted to go with the 2x12 Recto setup and think it is the best looking combination. It just doesn't suit my style of music, which is mainly blues. I would still like a 2x12 and may later see if the Recto cab will work for me with the rear panel removed.

That ED setup you are looking at was owned by one of the Proaudio guys and apparently has done very little work. There is nothing that would give it away as not being new. I think they even have the original boxes for it.

Cheers,

Jason.

Cheers Jason,

The story stacks up. They seem like decent Guys, I've never dealt with them before. I'm calling in to check it out tomorrow so if all measures up I'll be the new owner. Thanks for a bit of background info on the amp. It does look nice.
I'll stop worrying about the reverb then :D

I'm in Sydney, Northern Beaches.

Andy.

Cool. The 3 hour or so drive here won't be wasted, unless you just don't like how it sounds

I have been dealing with Pro Audio for over 20 years and have have never had a bad experience with them. They have a very low staff turn over too, some of the staff have been there that long. For Mesa gear you really can't do any better on price or stock as they are the Australian agent. Like any music shop though, it can take a bit to get the best price.

As for the reverb, I really like it. It sounds a bit tighter than say a Fender deluxe (which I like a little better for clean sounds), but it can still work well with the gain modes. I always use the reverb, but a little goes a long way.

Look forward to hearing how you go.

J.

Sorry to bust in on the thread, but perhaps the different reverb tank on the combos like my 1x12 is why my reverb is a little disappointing, in my opinion. BTW 6bent, that is a great looking rig. I hope you snagged it.

The tanks are a bit different, but only because of the way they are mounted. Same sound.

Hi Guys,

Just got back from Canberra. The Mesa Electra Dyne came with me. Love er to bits.

She's got the 6L6's installed and sounds wonderful with my Strats. Took a little tweaking with my Les Paul but sounding good now.

Anyone made the swap to EL34's. Pros & cons of the valve change?

Very Happy,
Andy. :p

Welcome to club ED :D Hope you got a good deal.

I have heard the ED with El34 tubes, the difference was not massive, but its there. To me there is a little less bass, and a bit more in the uper mids. The tone also looses a bit of the 6L6 hifi clean in exchange for the El34 grit.

Personally I like the stock 6L6 tubes better, but many others like El34s.
