Any chance someone can do a simple test? On a Rev. G 2 channel, turn the gain pot down as you're playing. Can you tell me if the gain sounds pretty much the same, or if the amp gets brighter as the gain is turned down?

Thanks!

No test, but I think Mesa writes something like "more gain equals less tone" in the manual (at least in my DR2010).
So, it could be the way you describe it.

I don't have my Recto handy, but that's typical.

Basically, there's a range in the gain knob where adding gain warms up and rounds off the tone. You notice it more on the clean channel on 3 channel Rectos as the lower gain settings can be kind of bright/sharp sounding.

It's one of the reasons the amp can get kind of mushy in the higher regions of the knob. I get my best heavy rhythm tones in around the 11:00 to 1:00 range.

Thanks for the replies. Was trying to see if they ever changed the cap bypassing the gain control. Figured it out though.
