So far I am looking at trying out: RCA Black Plate, Telefunken Smooth Plate, Mullard CV4004

Anything else worth adding to the menu to try in my 2C+? What about the best reverb tube? Any reason for using a 12AT7 in one of the slots?

It's Chinese, most likely Shuguang.

Thanks, whats the deal with these? Is it worth using even if I buy some NOS stuff (best spot)?

I have one of the smooth plate telefunkens in my 65' champ and it sounds great, which is kind of what drew me to it. I am looking for a high gain, smooth mids, harmonically rich lead sound. I dont really like bright tubes, this amp has an abundance of presence and treble. I actually like the way the chinese tube sounds, not sure which position is best suited for it.

V2-V5 is all sovteks right now...they produce a really buzzy tone so they have to go.

Lets say I wanted to use the chinese tube and replace the others. This is what I was thinking...how would you change it?

V1: Telefunken Smooth Plate
V2: Mullard CV4004
V3: Chinese ECC83
V4: Mullard CV4024
V5: RCA Black plate 7025

I have a bunch of those 80's era NOS shuguang 12ax7's. I keep em in case my buddy needs some. His Triple loves chinese tubes.....mine hates them to pieces.
