Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to know what would be the best and recommended replacement Preamp and Poweramp tubes for the F-30 Head. I'm planning to give my amp a set of new tubes.

I got this amp from ebay a few weeks ago and the seller said that he replaced all the tubes with new Mesa ones but as I looked at the tubes from the back, it does not say or show any Mesa logo at the tubes..

Plus when I played this amp at a small club, the volume on the Lead/Channel 2 is turned way up and I couldnt hear a thing against our drummer(our drummer plays at a fairly dynamic range). I have my head hooked up to a 4x12marshall cab

and also on my clean channel(channel 1), all I hear is cracking and popping when the volume is turned way up to. Which I could barely here.

I know that a 30 watt tube head should be loud enough for a small club but for my first time gigging with this head and the volume turned way up, it's not too loud I could barely hear myself.

SO I'm thinking about replacing the tubes and I just don't know what to get.

I would appreaceiate any help.

Thank you

Well, Mesa labeled tubes are not very expensive, and really one should have replacement spares...

The seller might have replaced his tubes in that amp with ones similar to what Mesa relabels with their own logos.

I have a friend with an f-30 combo, that amp is pretty loud, especially on the lead channel. The crackling and lack of volume you speak of sounds like a tube issue. Study the factory manual for your amp, should be available online. That is the best way to learn about what your amp needs and how to methodically troubleshoot tube issues. Peace.

I use JJ EL84's in my F30 combo. Definately an improvement to the stock mesa ones! Jj's or tungsols in the preamp, allthough the tungsols is a llitlle gain heavy. The jj's is more controllable.

When ordering non-Mesa branded tubes, make sure that the dealer knows that you'll be putting them in a Mesa/Boogie and that the dealer can provide the appropriate tubes.

I really like JJ's in my F30, but get them for late breakup, and always carry spares. Also keep acouple pre amp tubes handy, my amp eats V1 on a monthly basis.
