Recently I got my Mesa Boogie Dc5 for 550 £. I was originally after a Mark III though it was from that one the rock/metal sound (Black Sabbath, Metallica, Pantera etc. ) came from. Anyway: When I tested the Dc 5 out for the first time (tuesday) the rhythm channel delivered. But I didn't feel the same for the lead channel, at least not at that very moment. Now afterwords I've found a Mark III blue stripe that only costs 20 £ more than the Dc 5 and have started to feel regression over buying the the Dc5 though I worry it won't deliver at the same level as the Mark III. So to all you who have experienced these two: Should I feel regression or is it just that I must learn to know the amp more? Is the Dc 5 as good you think, or should I sell it and buy the Mark instead? Are there really any big differences between the two amps decpite watt and the number of power tubes included? Can the Dc-5 get a really good high gain also?

Thankfull for all answers!

Peace :)

I'll have to give you a longer reply when I'm not heading out. But I found this. It's a start anyway.

The dc 5 has a great tone, but it is not in the same class as a Mark lll. When I had a dc 5, I liked it but it wasn't very good unless I used a boost pedal to get near Metallica or Pantera, even then it was lacking total authority, I can get that tone with the lead drive at 3 on my Mark lll without a boost. If the Mark lll is a perfect ten, I'd say the dc 5 is about a 6.5. Mark lll's are the pinnacle of amplifiers in my opinion.
