Anyone tried this?

I have a Mark V, and a Roadster. The only thing I use the Roadster for now is the high gain Recto sound. I've read threads about Mark V settings for recto sound, and while pretty good, it doesn't quite get there for my personal taste. I wouldn't mind selling the Roadster and buying a cheaper Recto Recording Pre if it would give me a believable Recto sound.

Thoughts?

The Recto pre definitely gives a good Recto sound. I use one exclusively for my recordings then use a road king and a mark v for live. Recto pres dial differently than a roadster or road king. The only limitation I see with the Recto Pre in live applications if you want a bunch of different types of Recto sounds in the live application, because you're limited to two channels. But if you're switching between the recto pre and the mark v and can therefore afford to leave the same settings all the time on your recto pre, you should have no trouble dialing it in and loving it.

Sold my recto Pre after the purchase of my Mark V. IMO the mark V is close enough, but at the same time I am not really a recto fan

If you are thinking of trying to run the Rec Pre through the Mk V's power section in a live rig, I don't think that's a great idea. I tried my Rec Pre through Simul-Class power sections and it just never really sounded like a Recto. For recording, yeah, the Rec Pre is awesome once you figure out how it works.
