Hi folks,
I was wondering how the Recto Recording Pre stacked up in relation to other Rectifiers.

I realise its a more modern Rectifier, but seeing as it only has 2 channels does that make its tonal quality similar to the Rev. G Rectos or like the modern 3 Channel rectos?

I realised different poweramps make a difference as well, but I'm thinking about getting a Recto Pre and a 20/20 instead of using my Recto heads.

Hey man,

Late reply here.

You'll get nice cleans that way. Really nice cleans, and some great classic rock and "classic alternative" (like, pre-1992) tones. No way in the world will you replace a Recto head with a 20/20, though. EL84s sound like EL84s, and you just don't have the bass, headroom, or frankly the volume.

In terms of voicing Ch 2 is closer to the most modern Rectos, i.e the Roadster/Road King. It's a little "darker"/"muddier" depending on your point of view. And it's a Recto, the preamp section's a little complicated. If you want br00talz without using monstrous power-section volume, you need to boost it and start using some possibly counterintuitive preamp settings and an EQ.

You're obviously not one of them, but there seem to have been a number of guys who've never owned a non-modeling amp who buy Rec Pres to play in their bedroom, sorry, "studio", and then end up going BAAAWWWWWW when they find out there's no Killswitch/Petrucci/Tremonti button that Killswitch/Petrucci/Tremont use when they record albums in their bedrooms.
